A tiny heartbeat against my chest,
Wrapped in a blanket, home from the nest.
I held you close, so small and new,
My whole world gathered in the palm of you.
The sleepless nights, the first unsteady stride,
The way you’d reach and find me by your side.
It felt like forever, then a blink of an eye,
And now the morning sun is in the sky.
Your backpack’s heavy, your shoes are tied,
With a million feelings tucked deep inside.
You let go of my hand at the nursery door,
To find a world you haven’t seen before.
I watch you walk to the colorful mat,
A brave little soul in a sun-brimmed hat.
