According to Supreme Court's order, survey of enemy property has started in Calcutta
Baby Chakraborty: Kolkata:- Enemy property survey started in Kolkata. The Enemy Property Department under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs initiated this survey. The Enemy Property Department has started this survey with two battalions of Central Army personnel. About 7000 residents have been living for a long time on about 44 khata land in Rajabazar, there are 25 shops. After the Indo-Pakistani war in 1965, many citizens left this property and migrated to Pakistan. As none of them claimed this property, it came under the control of the Enemy Property Department. It should be mentioned that the officials of the Enemy Property Department came to start this survey in the month of February. Then the people of the area attacked them, so they had to leave with the work remaining. After that, the Enemy Property Department approached the Supreme Court. This time, the Central Army is conducting a survey on the order of the Supreme Court. The Ministry of Home Affairs has basically said that a list should be made of how many illegal constructions have been built on this enemy property. A list will also be made of whether they have been broken at all. Besides, a list of how many people are living in these enemy properties, and how many are paying taxes, will also be prepared. The survey report, including all lists, will be prepared as a status report and sent to the Supreme Court and the Enemy Property Disposal Committee at Delhi. In this regard, the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Kolkata Enemy Property Incharge said, "Enemy property is those who migrated to other countries during the Pakistan or China war, their rents were also moving to other countries. This step of the government is to stop it. The central representative said, "If the value of the property is below 1 crore rupees, then those who live in this property can purchase the property through EPDC." If more than this, it will be online bidding. To get this preference, one must first come under the rental system.” The Center has directed the Enemy Property Department to give three conditions to those living in such properties. Firstly, those who are living in these properties will come directly under the Enemy Property Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs and pay this property tax to the concerned department. They will no longer have to pay property tax to the Kolkata Municipality.
Secondly, since they have been living in this property for a long time, they can buy this property.
Thirdly, these properties must be completely vacated or the enemy property department will evict them. There are 4,301 such properties in West Bengal which are under the property department of the central government.
