Sikkim CM Flags Off NDRF’s Fourth ‘Shikhar’ Mountaineering Expedition to Mt. Jongsong.

Sikkim, September 4, 2026 – The fourth mountaineering expedition of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), named “Shikhar,” was officially flagged off today for its journey to Mount Jongsong.Sikkim leadership extended heartfelt best wishes to the team, calling the challenging trek a testament to the force's courage, endurance, and professional excellence.

The briefing highlighted the deep bonds of gratitude between the people of Sikkim and the NDRF, recognizing their life-saving interventions during major crises, including the 2011 Sikkim earthquake and the 2023 Teesta floods.

To further strengthen regional safety, the permanent deployment of an NDRF company in Pakyong and the construction of a fully developed NDRF centre were highlighted as critical steps toward strengthening Sikkim's long-term disaster response.

Expedition members were urged to prioritize safety and strictly respect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem, emphasizing that mountains are meant to be understood and respected rather than just conquered.

FIRE BREAKS OUT AT HOTEL TASHI DELEK, NO CASUALTIES REPORTED

Gangtok, Sikkim - A fire broke out below Hotel Tashi Delek today. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started was quickly brought under control by the local fire department.

Guests and staff were safely evacuated from the premises, and no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire was electric Short circuit.

Hotel management has assured that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
