Teesta River originates from the Tso Lhamo Lake at an elevation of about 5280 m in the North Sikkim district. It is the right bank major tributary of the Brahmaputra river system. Like many other major Himalayan rivers of India, like the Ganga, Teesta is a glacier-fed river. Pahurni glacier, Khangse glacier and ChhoLhamo Lake are also considered the sources of the Teesta River.

Teesta River is considered a valuable resource from which hydroelectricity can be produced to power the cities of Sikkim.

Sukhim Yakthung Sapsok Songchumbho (SYSS) strongly disagrees with the dress design of Ms. Jackielynn Pradhan, a contestant in Miss Universe India 2025. Recently, Ms. Pradhan wore an ornament similar to the SAMYANGPHUNG below her waist, which we find very inappropriate. The Samyangphung is not just an accessory; it is a sacred cultural symbol for the Limboo Tribal community, traditionally worn with great respect on the head by Limbooni women.
Wearing this important symbol inappropriately shows a lack of understanding of our culture and is hurtful to the Limboo community. SYSS, representing all Sikkimese Limboos, strongly condemns this action.
Mr. Bijay S***a has shared a video offering clarification that the Limboo community finds unsatisfactory. Following that, designer Vhaibhav Yadav released another video claiming the ornament was based on an "EGYPTIAN QUEEN MOTIF," which is also not acceptable.
SYSS, on behalf of the entire Limboo Tribal community in Sikkim, rejects both the clarification and the design. If a proper explanation is not provided, SYSS will take strict action against those involved.
