Mother-Son Duo Caught in Drug Bust by Mangan Police; Commercial Quantity Seized

Mangan, July 17 : In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trade, the Mangan Police Station team, led by PI Prashant Rai (SHO, Mangan PS), successfully apprehended a mother-son duo involved in drug peddling in Chadey, Mangan District.

Acting on credible information, the police conducted a search at the suspects’ residence, resulting in the recovery of 72 bottles of contraband cough syrup, classified under commercial quantity. The search and seizure operation was carried out in the presence of the Block Development Officer (BDO) and respectable local witnesses, in full compliance with legal procedures.

The accused have been identified as:
• Diki Lamu Tamang, 40 years
• Sudan Tamang, 24 years

A criminal case has been registered against both under relevant sections of SADA Act. Further investigation is underway.

हिजो श्रावण संक्रान्तिको दिन सिटिजन एक्सन पार्टी–सिक्किमका नेताहरूले “पेन्सन होइन, पद” अभियानअन्तर्गत सत्य, न्याय र जनउत्तरदायित्वका पक्षमा भिजिल्यान्स कार्यालयमा शान्तिपूर्ण रूपमा आवाज उठाए। तर सत्तामा बस्नेहरूलाई सत्य सधैं चुभिन्छ। साँझपख SP Vigilance को मिलेमतोमा झूटा मुद्दा दर्ता गर्दै १२ जना नेताहरूमाथि एफआईआर दर्ता गरियो, युवा कल्याण परिषद्का महासचिव दिवस गुरुङलाई जबर्जस्ती पक्राउ गरि सदर थाना ल्याइयो।

यो केवल दमनको सुरुवात थियो। रात करिब १० बजे SKMका गुण्डाहरू प्रहरीकै संरक्षणमा सदर थानाभित्र प्रवेश गरेर खुकुरी, मार्तोल र लाठीसहित हाम्रो नेताहरूमाथि नाङ्गो हमला गरे। थानाभित्रै भएको यो आक्रमण केवल शारीरिक हिंसा थिएन, यो प्रजातन्त्र, कानून र मानव अधिकारमाथिको सार्वजनिक बलात्कार थियो। प्रशान्त गुरुङको ढाडमा २३ सिलाइ लाग्नु एउटा व्यक्तिको घाउ होइन, सिंगो लोकतान्त्रिक मूल्यको चिरफार हो। धनबहादुर तामाङ, ललित गुरुङ र प्रशान्त बाबु छेत्री गम्भीर घाइते अवस्थामा अस्पतालमा छन्।

यस सम्पूर्ण घटनामा पुलिस प्रशासनको भूमिकाले प्रमाणित गर्‍यो,यो केवल स्थानीय घटना होइन, सत्ताको संरक्षणमा सञ्चालित योजनाबद्ध राजनीतिक हिंसा हो। SKM सरकारले यो राज्यमा न्याय होइन, आतंकको शासन लाद्न खोजेको छ। सत्य बोल्नेलाई थानामा तान्ने, रगत बगाउने अनि प्रहरी लगाएर अपराधीको सुरक्षा गर्ने सरकारलाई जनताले अब चिन्न थालेका छन्। हाम्रा युवा नेताहरूको रगतले एसकेएमले श्रावण संक्रान्ति मनायो!

हामी यो घटनाको कठोर शब्दमा घोर भर्त्सना गर्दछौं। हाम्रा नेताको रगतले पोषिएको हाम्रो आन्दोलन अझ तीव्र हुनेछ। यो आन्दोलन कुनै पार्टीको स्वार्थ होइन, न्याय र लोकतन्त्रको लागि लडाइँ हो। SKM सरकारलाई स्पष्ट सुनाउँछौं,हामी न त डराउँछौं, न झुक्छौं।

Online Certificate Issuance Launched at Rimbi-Tingbrum GPU

The Rimbi-Tingbrum Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU), in collaboration with the Office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Yuksom, has successfully launched the online issuance of key certificates — including employment cards (new/renewal), caste certificates (OBC, ST, SC), and unmarried certificates.

Today, seven (07) beneficiaries were handed their documents by Hon’ble Panchayat President Shri Mangal Rai, in the presence of Hon’ble Panchayat Vice President Smt. Sonam Zangmu Lepcha, and Hon’ble Panchayat Members Smt. Amuna Rai and Shri D.S. Limboo. The event was also attended by GPU staff: Mr. Muksam Limboo (PAA), Mr. Gagan Rai (Jr. VAA), and Miss Pemkit Lepcha (CSC Operator).

We are pleased to inform all citizens that it is no longer necessary to visit the Yuksom Sub-Division Office in person to obtain these certificates.

Our sincere thanks go to Respected SDM for his kind cooperation and support in making this citizen-centric initiative a reality.

On 17/07/2025 Police team led by PI Prashant Rai (SHO Mangan Police Station) was successful in nabbing mother Diki Lamu Tamang ,40yrs and son Sudan Tamang ,24 years active in drug peddling at Chadey, Mangan District. The search of residence had led to recovery of 72 bottles of contraband cough syrup. Today a joint patrolling and enforcement drive was conducted by the Gangtok Traffic Police and Sadar Police Station at Bahai School Road and Tadong Highway to address the ongoing issue of illegal/unauthorised parking and to raise awareness against drug abuse.The operation was led by ASP Traffic Pravin Lamichaney, SDPO Gangtok Mingyur T. Nadik DySP Traffic Tulsi Thapa, along with PI Sarad S***a, PI Ugen Tsh. Bhutia, PI Silash Tamang, mobile units and beat personnel.During the drive, multiple traffic violators were warned and 20 individuals were penalized under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Public awareness interactions were also held, encouraging citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious drug-related activities by dialing 112.The general public was urged to adhere to traffic rules, particularly in congested areas, and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat illegal activities.FYI pls.

Message of Gratitude for the Success of the 1st Sikkim State Inter-School Badminton Championship 2025
On behalf of the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS), I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the executive members of BAS, District Badminton Associations, affiliated clubs, technical officials, match commissioners, and central observers for their relentless dedication and exemplary efforts in making the 1st Sikkim State Inter-School Badminton Championship 2025 a resounding success.
With the unwavering support of district committees, we successfully hosted a vibrant two-day tournament across all six districts of Sikkim. Organizing an event of this scale for the first time presented significant challenges, yet through collective resolve, we delivered a seamless and impactful championship. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants and badminton enthusiasts, coupled with constructive suggestions, will guide us in enhancing future editions.
We are thrilled to announce that the winners and runners-up from each district will compete in the state-level finals in Gangtok during the first week of August 2025, where the state champion school team and individual players will be crowned.
My deepest appreciation goes to all participating government and private schools, students, teachers, coaches, and support staff whose contributions were instrumental to the event’s success. I also commend the media—both print and digital—for their exceptional coverage, which significantly amplified the championship’s reach and impact.
I extend my sincere thanks to the Sports Department, Power Department, District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and every individual across Sikkim’s six districts who played a pivotal role in supporting this milestone event. Your collective efforts laid a strong foundation for future successes.
Above all, I express profound gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim and esteemed Chief Patron of BAS, Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing badminton in Sikkim. Village Patrolling & Cannabis Destruction under Nasha Mukht Singtam Abhiyan at Dochum

Singtam, July 17: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukht Singtam Abhiyan, a village patrolling and anti-drug operation was conducted at Dochum village under Sirwani GPU by PI Sher Bahadur Manger (SHO/SINGTAM), PI Mamta Rai and the Singtam Police team in collaboration with Panchayat members and active villagers of Dochum.

During the operation, approximately 500 cannabis plants were identified, uprooted, and destroyed with the assistance of local residents.

As part of the initiative, a community meeting was also held with villagers and Panchayat members. To strengthen local cooperation and awareness, a “Nasha Mukht Dochum Committee” was formed with active participation from the villagers.

The police team urged the community to stay vigilant and continue supporting the campaign against drug abuse.
