82-Year-Old Missing Man Found Dead Near Rongli Zero After Drone-Assisted Search

An 82-year-old man who had been missing for nearly two days was found dead in a remote cliffside area near Rongli Zero under the jurisdiction of Rhenock Police Station. The tragic incident came to light following a coordinated search operation involving police, local residents, and drone surveillance.

According to police reports, the case began on November 29, 2025, around 3:15 PM, when Jog Bdr. Chettri of Lower Tarpin, Rhenock, filed a missing diary report stating that his father, Indra Bdr. Chettri, had disappeared from their home the previous evening at approximately 6:00 PM. A missing diary was promptly registered, and search efforts commenced.

Teams scoured nearby forest trails, footpaths, and steep terrain, suspecting the elderly man may have slipped and fallen from the cliff area near Rongli Zero. However, the challenging landscape and poor visibility made direct access extremely difficult.

On November 30, 2025, the search intensified with the deployment of a drone for aerial scanning. The device successfully located a body roughly 70 meters below the main road. Police personnel and local residents descended to the spot with caution and recovered the deceased. Family members later confirmed the identity.
Following standard procedure, a Rhenock Police Station Under Investigation case FIR No. 12/2025 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, was registered. The BDO of Rhenock conducted the inquest before the body was transported to Singtam District Hospital for autopsy.

Police have ruled out foul play, though the investigation remains ongoing. Police acknowledged the crucial support of Journalist Joseph Lepcha, whose drone operation made it possible to locate the body in an otherwise inaccessible zone.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Reaffirms Commitment to Empowering Citizens, Calls Welfare an “Emotion, Not Duty”

Gangtok: In a heartfelt gesture of compassion and governance, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang addressed beneficiaries at Chintan Bhawan on Saturday while distributing financial assistance under multiple state welfare schemes. Speaking with deep emotion, he said that serving the needy is not merely an administrative responsibility, but a personal sentiment rooted in empathy.

“Caring for those in need is not just my duty—it is an emotion that lives within me,” the Chief Minister expressed. “Their hopes and hardships live in my heart, and I would stake my life to protect their future.”

A total of 351 beneficiaries from all six districts received support under the Chief Minister’s Self Employment Assistance Scheme, Discretionary Grant, and Education Assistance Scheme, aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship, supporting families in distress, and enabling students to pursue their education without financial barriers.

While addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted inspiring stories of individuals who had previously received assistance and have since transformed their lives. He reiterated that helping deserving citizens—especially youth striving for self-dependence—remains the government’s unwavering priority.

“Our efforts are not temporary interventions—but long-term commitments to build confidence, dignity, and opportunity,” he said, reaffirming that empowerment through economic and educational support continues to form the backbone of the state’s welfare vision.

The event concluded with gratitude, applause, and renewed motivation among beneficiaries who expressed hope and pride in being part of a government that prioritizes human dignity and inclusion.

Sikkim Launches New Life Skills Curriculum to Empower Students with Safety Training

Sikkim is set to transform school education with the introduction of a comprehensive Life Skills Curriculum from the next academic year. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced the initiative, calling it a major step toward making students more self-reliant, confident, and prepared for emergencies.

The new curriculum will train students in essential life-saving techniques, including CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and disaster response protocols. It will also focus on practical soft skills such as communication, coordination, and teamwork—areas often overlooked in traditional education.

To fast-track implementation, the Chief Minister has instructed the Education Department, Health Department, and SDRF to finalize training modules without delay. He reiterated that the reforms are aligned with the government's principles of “Health First, Life Foremost, and Education Forward.”

He also addressed the ongoing shortage of medical professionals in the state. To strengthen rural healthcare, the government is introducing a mandatory three-year service requirement at Primary Health Centres for doctors pursuing postgraduate degrees.

Additionally, all departments will now appoint official spokespersons to ensure clear communication and enhance transparency in governance.
