The Indian women's cricket team defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 78 runs to win their second consecutive game in the 2024 Women's Asia Cup in Dambulla on Sunday.

Invited to bat, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (66) and Richa Ghosh (64 not out) made excellent fifties to help India post 201/5, their first-ever score over 200 in T20Is.

Bowlers Renuka Thakur Singh, Tanuja, Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma, and Radha Yadav all chipped in with wickets as a collective bowling performance to restrict the United Arab Emirates to only 123-7 in 20 overs.

With the convincing 78-run win over the UAE, Harmanpreet's Team India has sealed their berth in the semi-finals of the Women's Asia Cup 2024.

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed to lead the Indian team in T20Is against Sri Lanka while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named in the ODI squad against Sri Lanka with the former also captaining the side.

Shubman Gill will be the vice-captain in the ODI series as well as the T20Is. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for the series.

India defeated Zimbabwe by 42 runs in the fifth and final match of the five-match T20I series, registering a 4-1 series victory in Harare on Sunday.

Sanju Samson's crucial 58 off 45 deliveries, along with his 65-run partnership with Riyan Parag (22 runs), helped India post a competitive total of 167 for 6.

The Indian bowling attack, led by pacer Mukesh Kumar's impressive 4/22 and all-rounder Shivam Dube's 2/25, successfully restricted Zimbabwe to 125 in 18.3 overs, sealing the win for the visitors.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 93 not out off 53, while captain Shubman Gill gave him a good company with an unbeaten 58 off 39 as India registered a series-clinching 10-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the fourth T20I in Harare on Saturday.

Indian bowlers Shivam Dube and Abhishek Sharma were instrumental in restricting Zimbabwe to 152 for seven. Despite Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza's explosive 46 off 28 balls, the Indian bowlers maintained control, particularly during the middle overs.

The win helped the visitors take an unassailable lead of 3-1 in the five-match series. The fifth and final match will be played on Sunday(tomorrow) with India looking to continue their winning streak.

Abhishek Sharma slammed three consecutive sixes to score a maiden century as India defeated Zimbabwe by 100 runs in the second T20I in Harare on Sunday.

In the second match of the five-game series, Abhishek Sharma took just 47 balls to achieve 100 runs, taking India to 234/2 after Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first. This was the third fastest hundred for India in T20Is. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 77 not out while Rinku Singh too contributed with a quickfire 48 not out.

In the second innings, the likes of Avesh Khan (3 for 15) and Ravi Bishnoi (2 for 11) ruled the roost as India bowled out Zimbabwe for 134. With the win the series is all square (1-1). The third T20I is at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe defeated recently crowned world champions India by 13 runs in the first T20I to take a 1-0 lead in the five match series in Harare on Saturday.

Ravi Bishnoi’s four wickets restricted Zimbabwe to 115/9 after Indian skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first on pitch which looked on the drier side.

The young Indian batters failed to shine and returned with eight-single digit scores to be bowled out for 102 in 19.5 overs in pursuit of a target of 116. India were reduced to 86 for 9 in 17 overs and from there Washington Sundar (27; 34b) led India's fightback but only to fall short.

Captain Raza and pacer Tendai Chatara picked up three wickets each to help the hosts become the first team to defeat India in T20Is played in 2024.

After suffering a shock defeat in the series opener, India would like to make a comeback in the second match, which is scheduled to take place at the same venue on Sunday (July 6).

India defeated England by 68 runs in the semi-final on Thursday to book their 2024 T20 World Cup final. This is the first time in 10 years, India qualified for the final of a T20 World Cup, the last being in 2014.

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav played crucial knocks as India posted a total of 171 for 7 in 20 overs after being invited to bat. India were 40 for 2 in 5.2 overs before Rohit and Suryakumar stitched a solid 73-run stand to bail the side out of trouble. Rohit fell for 57 off 39 while Suryakumar hit 47 off 36.

In the second innings, Axar Patel then dented England's chase with figures of 3 for 23 while Kuldeep Yadav also picked 3 for 19 to restrict England for 103.

Star paddler Sreeja Akula scripted history on Sunday as she won the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender singles title in Lagos, becoming the first Indian to win the singles title as she beat Chinese player Ding Yijie 4-1 in the final.

Akula lost the first game against the rising Chinese younger with a scoreline of 10-12 but went on to sweep the next four games with 11-9, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-6 to cap off the victory.

World champion javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra claimed his maiden gold medal at the 2024 Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, on Tuesday, with a best throw of 85.97 metres.

Chopra began steadily with a throw of 83.62m. Local favourite Oliver Helander pushed him for the lead, taking the top spot with an 83.96m throw in the second round. However, Chopra responded with his best throw of the day, a soaring 85.97m effort in his third attempt.

Last year's gold medalist, Oliver Helander, finished third with a throw of 83.96m. Chopra entered this competition after securing second place in the Doha Diamond League and a gold medal at the Federation Cup in Bubaneswar last month.
