Gauhati University celebrated Varsity Week with a cultural rally, inaugurated by Jayant Krishna Sharma and Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director of Student Welfare, Sports, and Recreation. The rally commenced with Jayant Krishna Sharma lighting a lantern in tribute to the late Prasanta Pratim Sharma, former Cultural Secretary and resident of AT 4 Boys' Hostel. In his memory, the cultural rally award is given annually, sponsored by the AT 4 Boys' Hostel. Esteemed judges for the event included Sangeet Natak Academy Award recipient Ramkrishna Talukdar, noted actor and theater director Asim Krishna Barua, and Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Dr. Kuldeep Patgiri.

Departments and hostels from across the university participated as competitors in the rally, demonstrating their unique talents through various performances. The INTER-HOSTEL cultural rally competition culminated with the following results:

RCC 8 Girls' Hall clinched the 1st prize.
A three-way tie for the 2nd prize was observed among AT8 Boys' Hall, RCC 6 Girls' Hall, and RCC 2 Boys' Hall.
The 3rd prize was shared among RCC 5 Girls' Hall, RCC 3 Girls' Hall, RCC 3 Boys' Hall, and RCC 7 Girls' Hall.

The commencement of the much-anticipated Varsity Week at Gauhati University has been overshadowed by a ​recurring issue of inadequate information dissemination, leaving a significant portion of its diverse student body ​in the lurch. The crux of the problem lies in the Post Graduate Students' Union's decision to publish the program ​list exclusively in Assamese, disregarding the linguistic diversity of the student population.

Gauhati University, renowned for its diverse student body hailing from various parts of India and abroad, prides ​itself on being a melting pot of cultures and languages. However, the decision to circulate vital information ​pertaining to Varsity Week solely in Assamese has sparked concerns and dissatisfaction among non-Assamese ​speaking students, who find themselves unable to participate fully in the week-long festivities and events due to ​language barriers.
