| The Gauhati High Court has directed the Assam government to pay Rs 2 lakh as interim compensation to Mujammel Hoque, the husband of Mumtaz Begum, who was expelled to Bangladesh after being declared a non-citizen by a foreigners tribunal. 🎥 | Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, who collaborated with artists across the country and showcased his versatility beyond the rock music genre, died on Monday morning after he was allegedly assaulted outside his home in southeast Delhi.

One of the notable collaborations in his career was with renowned Rajasthani folk artist Mame Khan, where Singh showcased his guitar skills as part of the Rock’n’Roots project. The collaboration highlighted his ability to explore musical traditions beyond the rock scene for which he was widely known.

Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, 54, died on Monday morning after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of men outside his home in Kilokari, southeast Delhi.

According to police and family members, Singh had gone downstairs late Sunday night after objecting to noise near his residence. He was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Okhla by his son but succumbed to his injuries. The hospital report cited haemorrhagic shock caused by blunt force trauma as the cause of death.

Originally from Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai in Imphal West, Singh emerged from ’s rock scene in the early 1980s. He began with Ultra Vires before becoming lead guitarist of Phoenix and later performing with Eastern Dark.

Beyond rock, Singh collaborated with artists across India, including Rajasthani folk singer Mame Khan through the Rock’n’Roots project, showcasing his versatility as a guitarist.

Singh is survived by his wife, Jyotsana, 54, and their 20-year-old son, Yaiphaba, a law student. Jyotsana works as a senior consultant with a multinational company.
