Amar Sonar Bangla
The lyrics were written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1905.
It was composed during the period of the Partition of Bengal (1905), when British India split Bengal into two — this triggered strong reactions among the Bengali people.
It celebrates the land of Bengal (“mother Bengal”), its skies, air, mango groves, and paddy fields — expressing deep affection and pride for the homeland.
According to sources, it was first sung publicly around August 1905 at a reading session in Kolkata
The lyrics appeared in a Bengali literary magazine in September 1905.
The musical notation was prepared by Tagore’s niece, Indira Devi Chowdhurani
During the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, the song became a rallying symbol of Bengali identity and resistance.
After independence, on 13 January 1972 the Government of Bangladesh officially adopted Amar Sonar Bangla as the national anthem (specifying that only the first ten lines of the original song are used for the anthem)
Significance & Themes
The song symbolises the love for Bengal, its nature, its simple rural life, and the emotional bond of the people with their land.
So before Bangladesh India used this song
