Sukhim Yakthung Sapsok Songchumbho (SYSS) Meets Secretary, Culture Department, Government of Sikkim
Today, representatives of Sukhim Yakthung Sapsok Songchumbho (SYSS) met the Secretary of the Culture Department, Government of Sikkim, at his office Manan Kendra to express their gratitude for the opportunity given to SYSS to represent Limboo culture during the Kuzu Fest held in Gangtok on 8th May 2025, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood. SYSS proudly showcased the distinct and vibrant cultural heritage of the Limboo community during the event.
However, during the main Statehood Day celebration held at Paljor Stadium on 16th May 2025, the Limboo culture was not included in the cultural presentation. In this regard, SYSS submitted a memorandum requesting the regular inclusion of Limboo cultural performances in all state-level programs organized by the Government, similar to those of the Bhutia, Lepcha, and Nepali communities.
The SYSS delegation highlighted that the Limboos are one of the indigenous tribes of Sikkim with a rich history, unique cultural identity, and a vibrant heritage, comparable to that of the Sikkimese Bhutia and Lepcha communities.
In the memorandum, SYSS also placed a demand for the recruitment of Limboo artists in the Culture Department to ensure fair representation and promotion of the Limboo cultural tradition at the state level.
