Hera Panchami ritual is one of the major rituals of the Ratha Yatra which falls on the fifth day of the festival. As per Skanda Puran, Hera Panchami is one of the important rituals of Srimandir.
This day Goddess Lakshmi visit to the Gundicha temple to get a glimpse of her husband Lord Jagannath. Later she gets angry and orders to break a part of Nandighosha ratha, the chariot of Lord Jagannath, parked in front of the Gundicha Temple, this is called chariot breach (Ratha Bhang). and then she leaves secretly to Srimandir through a different path known as Hera Gouri lane.
