Arugam bay, the most popular surf spot in Sri Lanka is located in the dry zone of the South- East coast. This place is also known as "Arugam kudah" by the locals, whose livelihood basically depends on fishing and tourism around the area.
The eye-catching coast line, lagoons and the historic temples nearby draw the tourists' attention to Arugam bay. Kumana national park is another reason for the tourists to choose this place as their destination. Arugam bay has hosted many international surfing competitions since 2004 since it is the only international surf competition venue in Sri Lanka.
