या देवी सर्वभू‍तेषु
मां कूष्‍मांडा रूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै |
नमस्तस्यै नमो नम:।।
मां दुर्गा के चौथे स्वरूप का नाम कूष्माण्डा है। अपनी मंद मुस्कान द्वारा अंड अर्थात ब्रह्मांड को उत्पन्न करने के कारण इन्हें कूष्माण्डा देवी के नाम से अभिहित किया गया है। अत: यही सृष्टि की आदि स्वरूपा और आदि शक्ति हैं। इनका निवास सूर्यलोक में है। इन्हीं के तेज और प्रकाश से दसों दिशाएं प्रकाशित हो रही हैं। ये अष्टभुजा देवी के नाम से भी विख्यात हैं। संस्कृत भाषा में कूष्माण्ड कुम्हडे़ को कहते हैं। बलियों में कुम्हड़े की बलि इन्हें सर्वाधिक प्रिय है। मां कूष्माण्डा की उपासना से भक्तों के समस्त रोग-शोक विनष्ट हो जाते हैं। मां कूष्माण्डा अत्यल्प सेवा और भक्ति से प्रसन्न होने वाली हैं। नवरात्र पूजन की चौथे दिन कूष्माण्डा देवी के स्वरूप की उपासना की जाती है। इस दिन साधक का मन अनाहत चक्र में स्थित होता है।
