ROSHNI (Rehabilitation Opportunities, Services and Health for the Neurologically Impaired) was founded in 1998 as a project of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, to provide services for persons with Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Autism and other neurological multiple impairments, in and around Gwalior. raise awareness about disabilities, to reach out to remote areas , build capacities and strengthen the knowledge and skills of the families, professionals, educational and social organisations, to enable the inclusion of persons with disability into the community.
Roshni is a Facilitation Centre in Madhya Pradesh, for the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Mental Retardation & Multiple Disabilities and also the NGO member of the National Trust Local Level Committee; .thus we have an outreach to neighbouring rural districts in the less developed Northern Madhya Pradesh. We are conducting Awareness Camps and other activities in the Rural areas of these districts and mentoring and supporting the services of the NGOs in smaller district towns.

Support persons with Neurological developmental disabilities and their families through services and trainings. We provide an enabling environment to help Persons with Disabilities become empowered and live meaningful lives.
About us
ROSHNI was founded in 1998 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh with the objective of providing direct services for persons with neurological and other impairments, raise awareness about disability, build capacities to increase the numbers and strengthen the knowledge and skills of the lay and the professional, family and community, to enable the inclusion of persons with disability into the community.
Director of services – Ms. Manjula Patankar
She has worked in varoius projects, as a special Educator Superior and Co-ordinator, for 15 years at the Spastics Society N. India a diploma in special education 1985; certificate in alternative and augmentative communication movement and yoga for children with special needs – UK, and drama therapy; she is Member International Society for Alternative and Augmentative Communication; Member of the National Trust, local level committiee Gwalior; and is also associated with a number of other social and welfare institutions in Gwalior and at national level.
Deputy Director of services – Ms. Priti Kapoor
She is special educator trained in 1983 by NCERT as a key person in the integrated education of the disabled. She brings in her experience at the Spastics Society of Northern India, where she functioned as deputy head of a project, special educator in a rural project and as lecturer in the post graduate diploma in special education. She looks after the day to day functioning and training needs at ROSHNI.
Direct Services
ROSHNI extends the entire gamut of specialist services to persons with disability and their families, despite the severe constraints imposed by limitations in availability of professionals. Gwalior does not have professionals, and few from the cities are willing to come to such small towns – especially as therapists, social workers, special educators etc. command much higher salaries in the cities than can be matched with the limited resources we have. It is a tribute to the commitment and sense of service of the professionals at ROSHNI that they are able to meet the various rehabilitation needs of persons with disability in the region.
