Pinching is a simple but very effective technique used to encourage branching, increase flowering points, and improve fruit production.

What is Pinching?

Pinching means removing the soft growing tip (terminal bud) of a young shoot using fingers or pruning shears.

When to Pinch Guava Plants?

* Young plants (1–2 years old): Start pinching when shoots reach about 30–45 cm (1–1.5 ft) in length.
* Established orchards: Pinching is usually done after pruning and during active vegetative growth to induce more fruiting shoots.

How to Do It?

1. Allow the main shoot to grow to about 60–75 cm (2–2.5 ft).
2. Pinch the top 2–5 cm of the shoot.
3. This stimulates 3–5 lateral branches.
4. When these lateral branches reach 30–40 cm, pinch them again to create secondary branches.
