✨ Bengali or Marathi? ✨


Celebrating two iconic weaving traditions by interpreting them as dhotis: the magnificent Baluchari from Bengal, renowned for its intricate mythological narratives woven into the pallu, and the regal Paithani from Maharashtra, celebrated for its vibrant colours, exquisite zari work, and timeless elegance.

A small but important clarification, these are not the traditional ways dhotis are worn in either Bengal or Maharashtra. These drapes are my own creative interpretations, designed to showcase the beauty and versatility of these extraordinary handwoven sarees while paying tribute to the cultures they belong to. The intention is not to redefine tradition, but to celebrate it through a contemporary lens.

The same concept, yet two completely different identities, each reflecting the heritage of its region. India’s handloom legacy is incredibly diverse, and every weave deserves to be appreciated, preserved, and celebrated.

India’s handloom traditions are not just beautiful textiles, they are living stories of history, craftsmanship, and culture, passed down through generations.
