In the ongoing probe into the sudden death of Zubeen Garg, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has been taken into custody for questioning.

Meanwhile, festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta is on the verge of arrest, reportedly contacting the CID from an airport lounge to surrender.

CID sources say more members of the Singapore Assam Association may also face detention as the investigation widens. A SIT team also raided Mahanta’s residence earlier today.

Assam CM clarified that Shyamkanu Mahanta’s events never reflected Assamese culture and announced that the state govt will no longer fund, support, or permit them.

CM Sarma recalled leaving an event at Judges Field after hearing inappropriate slogans, stating he has never endorsed Mahanta’s shows.

Following the controversy over Zubeen Garg’s death, the govt has also decided to bar Mahanta from organising events in Assam and will urge the Centre to deny sponsorship.

As mystery deepens over Zubeen Garg’s death, actor Manas Robin has claimed to hold documentary proof of financial embezzlement linked to the late singer. 📂

He urged the CID to widen its probe to include alleged money transfers involving Shyamkanu Mahanta, already blacklisted by the government.

Manas also suggested ways to honour Zubeen’s legacy — from a statue at Madame Tussauds to a giant gamosa kite at Lachit Ghat. 🕊️

He further insisted that powers held by Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma should now rest with the singer’s family.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the untimely death of legendary singer Zubeen Garg.

The SIT, comprising top Assam Police officers, will have full independence to investigate with integrity. Viscera samples will be sent to the Central Forensic Lab, Delhi, for advanced testing.

CM Sarma assured the people: “No one will be spared.”
