New Study Compares MAS and MDCTSI for Acute Gallstone-Induced Pancreatitis Prognosis

This study compares the Modified Atlanta Score (MAS) and the Modified CT Severity Index (MDCTSI) in assessing the severity of acute gallstone-induced pancreatitis. MAS, based on clinical and biochemical markers, is evaluated against MDCTSI, the imaging-based gold standard, to determine which method is more effective in predicting patient outcomes.

Key Highlights:
-MAS shows high sensitivity for identifying mild cases (98.63%) and excellent specificity for moderate (100%) and severe cases.
-Both MAS and MDCTSI correlate strongly in predicting disease severity.

Results:
-MAS is a reliable tool, offering high sensitivity and specificity for all severity categories.
-MAS correctly identifies severe pancreatitis, with comparable performance to MDCTSI.

Conclusion: MAS is a practical and cost-effective bedside tool for early assessment in acute pancreatitis. It provides accurate prognostic value, making it an excellent alternative to MDCTSI, especially in settings with limited access to imaging.
