More than 300 bikers from different communities participated in a 60-km Tiranga Bike Rally in district as part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to mark India's .

The , organised under the leadership of Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, covered the route from Kangpokpi district headquarters to Gamgiphai and onward to Keithelmanbi Military Colony in the Champhai Sub-Division.

: A 60-year-old man was arrested in Assam's district on Saturday, August 15, for allegedly attempting to **e a Class 10 student who was returning home after attending an programme at her school.

The incident reportedly took place near Badarpur railway town when the girl was returning home from Badarpur Cooperative Higher Secondary School after participating in the Independence Day celebrations.

According to a complaint filed by the girl's family, the accused, identified as Madan Pal, allegedly intercepted the student on her way home, covered her mouth with his hand and forcibly took her to his house.

He allegedly locked the girl inside a room and attempted to sexually her. The girl reportedly resisted, bit the accused on his hand and managed to escape by jumping through a window.

: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, August 15, appealed to people from other parts of the country who have made Assam their home to list as their mother tongue during the ongoing Census exercise.

The appeal comes amid a decline in the proportion of Assam’s population identifying Assamese as their mother tongue in successive Census enumerations.

The Minority Struggle Council has submitted a memorandum seeking justice for the death of Nabajit Das, officer-in-charge of the Laishong Police Outpost in district, who allegedly died after being hit by a vehicle suspected to be involved in drug trafficking.

According to the organisation, Das was attempting to intercept the vehicle on Friday night when it allegedly hit him and fled the scene, leaving the car behind. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
