The sun, moon, and stars were created for signs, seasons, days, and years (Genesis 1:14). They were never meant to be objects of worship or divination. When Israel fell into idolatry, one of their common sins was bowing to “the host of heaven” (2 Kings 17:16).

God warned that anyone who bowed down to created lights was guilty of turning from the Creator to the creature (Deuteronomy 4:19; Romans 1:25).

Joel 2:31: “The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.” Acts 2:20 and Revelation 6:12.

God warns His people not to be “dismayed at the signs of the heavens” (Jeremiah 10:2).

The Gospel reminds us that our salvation and hope come from the finished work of Jesus on the cross. He is the true Light of the world (John 8:12).

Psalm 121:2: “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” Psalm 19:1
