Authorities in Mizoram have begun a biometric enrollment drive for over 2,700 documented refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh across Lunglei, Serchhip, and Hnahthial districts.

In Lunglei alone, 1,991 refugees from Myanmar and 63 from Bangladesh are being registered, while Hnahthial records 701. Reports from Serchhip suggest the real numbers may be much higher than official data.

The drive, which includes fingerprinting and photographs, aims to ensure accurate records for better aid distribution. However, operations in Champhai have been temporarily halted due to a technical glitch.

Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi, engaging in a meaningful dialogue on the state's developmental priorities.

From the transformative Thenzawl Peace City Project and the request to declare the Aizawl-Thenzawl Road as a National Highway, to ensuring swift progress on the Handholding Policy, the Chief Minister placed Mizoram’s pressing needs on the national table.

He also stressed the urgency of expanding piped gas connectivity in Aizawl, referencing the ₹9,265 crore Gas Pipeline Project by IGGL, and emphasized the importance of timely ex*****on to ease the burden on citizens.

The meeting also touched upon regional concerns, including the situation in Myanmar’s Chin Hills and its effects on Mizoram.
Pu Lalduhoma extended a warm invitation to the PM to inaugurate the newly completed Bairabi–Sairang Railway Line — a significant milestone in the state’s connectivity journey — to which the Prime Minister responded positively, schedule permitting.

A meeting of vision and commitment — for a stronger, better-connected Mizoram.
