On this International Women’s Day we salute Minuma Boro. In a remarkable display of bravery, Minuma Boro, a 55-year-old woman from Kolibari, has been celebrated for saving the lives of 18 women during a pilgrimage to Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The group embarked on their spiritual journey on September 12, but tragedy struck when their hired driver from Delhi suffered a fatal heart attack while navigating treacherous mountain roads. With the vehicle precariously positioned on dangerous terrain, panic ensued among the passengers.

Undeterred by the crisis, Minuma quickly stepped into action. Demonstrating exceptional composure and driving skills, she took control of the vehicle and successfully maneuverer it to safety, ensuring that all 18 women escaped unharmed.

Her quick thinking and fearless response have made her a local hero, with the community praising her resilience in the face of adversity. Minuma Boro’s courageous act has left an indelible mark, symbolizing strength and heroism amidst challenging circumstances.

On this International Women’s Day we salute Dhira Chaliha Hazarika, is celebrated as the state's first lady pilot of Assam. She was born on January 7, 1940, in Jorhat, Assam. Her fascination with aviation began in childhood, inspired by her father's encouragement and her own adventurous spirit. In 1958, she joined the Assam Flying Club, where she underwent rigorous training. By April 1961, at the age of 21, she earned her flying wings, marking a significant milestone in Assam's aviation history.

Her inaugural solo flight took place in 1961, navigating from Borjhar to Tezpur. Reflecting on this experience, she recounted initial apprehensions due to the lack of radio contact but ultimately found joy in the journey.
Beyond her aviation achievements, Dhira Chaliha Hazarika married singer-composer and lyricist Karnal Hazarika in 1963, after which she moved to London.

She continues to inspire many, dividing her time between the UK and Assam, and has been honored with several awards, including the 'Prag Prerona Award' in 2017 and the 'Veerangana Mula Gabharu Award' in 2024.
