The first phase of Panchayat Elections 2025 in Assam was conducted on Friday (May 2) in 14 districts of the state.
In the first phase, polling were held in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Cachar, Hailakandi and Sribhumi.
The overall voter turnout in the first phase was recorded at 70.19%.
As per the data of the Assam State Election Commission, the voter turnout in the 14 districts were:
Tinsukia - 64.71%
Dibrugarh - 68%
Charaideo - 71.02%
Sivasagar- 72.56%
Majuli - 80.02%
Jorhat - 72.15%,
Golaghat - 69.92%
Dhemaji - 77.14%
Lakhimpur - 71%
Sonitpur - 61%
Biswanath - 64.51%
Cachar - 73%
Hailakandi - 73.5%
Sribhumi - 64.10%
The Assam State Election Commission also announced that re-polling will be conducted at 43 polling stations due to disturbances. These include 31 stations in Hailakandi, eight in Sribhumi, two in Lakhimpur, and one each in Golaghat and Majuli.
"Except a few polling stations where untoward incidents took place, the 1st phase Panchayat Election, 2025, completed peacefully," the Assam State Election Commission said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the second phase of the polls will be held on May 7 in the remaining 13 districts, and the counting of votes will done on May 11.
