Ambubachi festival, or mela, comes to an end at the Hindu shrine of Kamakhya in .
The annual festival, which celebrates the yearly menstruation course of goddess Kamakhya, was a low-key affair yet again this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the temple doors will open today, visitors will be controlled/not allowed due to the ongoing restrictions.
It is believed that the presiding goddess of the temple, Devi Kamakhya, the Mother Shakti, goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during this time.
