Despite Madhya Pradesh improving from the first to the second position in terms of infant mortality rates, the issue remains a matter of concern. Currently, 35 out of every 1,000 newborns in the state do not survive their first month. While infant deaths have decreased in districts like Alirajpur, regions such as Khargone, Barwani, Anuppur, and Shivpuri continue to report high numbers.

The primary reasons for these infant deaths include infections, pre-term births, low birth weight, and issues related to IVF. To tackle these challenges, it is important for doctors and nursing staff to receive training in the use of new technologies. A common misconception is that infants catch infections from their mothers, but experts clarify that infections often occur during delivery.

This concern was discussed at the three-day NEOCON (Neonatology) Conference in Indore, where neonatologists emphasized the importance of addressing birth-related complications. One such complication is birth asphyxia, a condition where the infant doesn't cry or breathe at birth, leading to oxygen deprivation in the brain. This can result in conditions like mental disabilities and weakness, as the child's brain doesn't fully develop.

Dr. Naveen Jain (from Trivandrum) highlighted that advancements in technology have made newborn and pre-term baby care much more effective. Modern NICUs (Neonatal Intensive Care Units) now replicate the environment of the mother's womb. New advanced incubators can play recorded sounds of the mother's heartbeat and blood flow, helping pre-term and newborn babies feel like they are still in the womb. This helps the babies relax and sleep better, giving them a sense of comfort similar to being inside the mother’s womb.

These technological advancements and innovations in neonatal care are expected to play a crucial role in reducing infant mortality rates in Madhya Pradesh.

President Droupadi Murmu will be in Indore on a two-day visit from September 18-19. During her stay, she will reside at the Residency Kothi, where all official decisions and activities from Delhi will continue seamlessly. On the first day, she is scheduled to meet local artists in Indore. On the morning of September 19, President Murmu will visit the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain and lay the foundation stone for the Indore-Ujjain six-lane project. Later, she will attend the convocation ceremony at Devi Ahilya University in Indore before returning to Delhi.

• High Security Measures and Restricted Areas

The public is restricted from entering the garden and campus, and a three-kilometer area has been designated as a drone no-fly zone. A crew of 30-35 people will accompany the President during the visit.

• Details of the President’s Meals and Special Instructions

President Murmu will have dinner on September 18, and breakfast and lunch on September 19, all prepared in Indore. Her meals will follow strict dietary preferences—completely vegetarian, without onions and garlic, and the milk will come from cows. Lentils of all types, except masoor, will be served. The dinner menu will exclude tinda, arbi, aloo-gobi, spinach-paneer, and rajma. Additionally, multi-grain flour will be used for both roti and sandwiches.

There are specific instructions that only mustard oil, refined oil, or olive oil should be used for cooking. The breakfast will include fruits and sprouts, with a focus on non-citrus fruits, and a turmeric-infused cow’s milk drink.

• Special Arrangements for National Anthem and Events

It has been instructed that the national anthem should not be played in a recorded format. If military, police, or paramilitary bands are unavailable, a group of four individuals with a proper sound system will perform it live. Food packets will not be distributed at any event during the visit.

In a groundbreaking initiative, several hospitals and clinics in Indore have begun offering medical treatments on easy monthly installments (EMI), providing significant financial relief to patients who previously struggled to afford costly procedures.

Residents such as Viplav Soni from Chhatribagh and Deepak from Vijaynagar have already benefited from this new facility. Viplav, who needed treatment for facial pimples costing around ₹20,000, opted for the EMI plan due to a lack of immediate funds. "I am now getting my treatment done with easy installments over several months," Viplav shared.

Similarly, Deepak, who underwent a nose surgery costing approximately ₹80,000, also chose the EMI route. "I didn't have the full amount up front, so the EMI option made it possible for me to get the surgery done," he said.

• Wide Range of Treatments Covered

The EMI option is available for a variety of treatments, including those for heart disease, cancer, neurological conditions, and other complex medical procedures. Many patients across different private hospitals and clinics in the city are now using this facility.

"This is a positive change in the medical field," said Dr. Ashwini Dash, a plastic and cosmetic surgeon. "Many patients who were previously deprived of treatment due to financial issues are now able to receive the care they need," he added.
