Gwalior’s newly constructed and most expensive “Mahal Road”, has become a symbol of poor construction.

This road has collapsed 10 times in the last 10 days due to rains and it was built just a month ago. The road could not even withstand the first spell of rains.
This road, connecting Madhav Nagar to Chetakpuri, is part of a ₹19 crore water drain project. Around ₹4.30 crore was spent specifically on building this stretch, popularly known as Mahal Road, as it leads to the palace of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

However, what was supposed to be a sign of development has now become a topic of public anger and mockery. Locals say that whenever it rains, the road collapses at multiple points, forming massive potholes. Residents are angry over the condition of road, despite having such a huge budget, the road quality is worse than that of village roads.
People who travel this route daily say they had hoped the months-long inconvenience due to roadwork and drain pipeline installation would finally end with a good road. But the reality turned out to be worse. The road has been collapsing repeatedly, raising serious questions about the quality of materials and workmanship.
The administration trying to cover up the issue. As soon as a collapse is reported, workers rush to the spot, fill the pits with gravel using machines, without any proper repair or accountability.

Public anger is now at its peak. Many allege massive corruption in the road construction process. Several other roads in Gwalior are also in poor condition, with heavy rains causing major damage citywide.
After mounting pressure, Gwalior Collector Ruchika Singh Chauhan has formed a two-member inquiry committee to investigate the repeated collapse of Mahal Road. The committee has been given five days to submit its report.
Meanwhile, the issue has taken a political turn, with the Congress party raising questions and targeting the ruling government over corruption in Smart City projects. As of now, citizens await action and answers, while the road that cost crores continues to crumble under the slightest rainfall.

A shocking incident has come to light from Gwalior, where a 10-year-old boy sustained a facial injury after a blade was found embedded inside a bar of Dettol soap. The boy, Ansh Tomar, was bathing when he suddenly felt a sharp sting on his cheek. Upon inspection, his family discovered a blade protruding from the soap, which had caused the cut and bleeding.

The incident occurred on Monday evening in Anand Nagar, Bahodapur. Ansh had just returned from playing with friends when his mother asked him to take a bath. As he rubbed the soap on his face, the blade inside caused a cut on his cheek. Hearing his cries, his father, Angad Singh Tomar, rushed into the bathroom and was shocked to find a razor blade embedded inside the soap bar.

Angad Tomar immediately took the soap to the nearby Mohit Kirana Store, from where the soap had been purchased. He had bought ten 10-rupee soap bars on May 21 along with his monthly groceries. The shopkeeper, Mohit, was equally surprised and exchanged the bar with a new one. However, to their horror, the second soap also contained a blade when examined at home.

“This could have taken my son’s life,” said Angad Tomar, who has since filed a formal complaint with the National Consumer Helpline by dialing 1915 and through its online platform. He has also submitted the matter to the local consumer forum, seeking strict action against the manufacturer and demanding accountability.

Tomar warned that if no substantial action is taken, he will escalate the matter to the courts. “Such negligence is unacceptable. It’s not just a product defect, it’s a threat to life,” he said.

Gwalior is rapidly deploying a citywide siren alert system designed to cover all 66 municipal wards. The initiative, aimed at enabling swift citizen warnings during crises,

Following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan and repeated drone attack attempts by Pakistan on Indian military bases, the Maharajpura Air Force Station in Gwalior has been placed on high alert. Security has been intensified in and around the airbase, with police conducting round-the-clock checks within a five-kilometer radius and throughout the city.

The Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Air Terminal, which connects Gwalior to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, is expected to remain shut until further notice.

To support residents during this emergency, a 24-hour control room has been established at the Control Command Center in Moti Mahal. Citizens can report emergencies or request assistance by calling the public helpline number 0751-2646606.

Police have blocked unauthorized access to all roads leading to the airbase, including Bhind-Itawa Road, DD Nagar Road, Gola Ka Mandir, and the Gwalior Bypass. Entry into the airbase is now restricted to those with official military clearance.

Security checks have also been stepped up across the city, especially at the four main entry points and central junctions.

City-Wide Emergency Measures in Place

In response to a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and subsequent military actions by India, Pakistan has intensified its aggression toward both Indian military and civilian areas. As Gwalior hosts a major air force base, it is considered one of the 244 highly sensitive cities in the country.

District Collector Ruchika Chauhan has ordered constant monitoring of the emergency control room, ensuring staff remain on duty around the clock. The administration urges residents to stay alert and report any unusual activities immediately.
