The Citizen Action Party–Sikkim (CAP–Sikkim) has announced that it will solemnly observe 28th October as “Black Day” every year, marking one of the darkest chapters in Sikkim’s recent political history.

On this very day in 2024, Party President Shri Ganesh K. Rai had staged a symbolic protest by wearing a black armband in Soreng the home constituency of Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay). The protest was a direct expression of opposition to the growing political intolerance, misuse of state machinery, and the suppression of democratic voices under the present regime.

That historic protest in Soreng, led by Shri Ganesh Rai alongside senior party leaders and supporters, was a bold statement against fear and intimidation. Despite facing obstacles and attempts to silence dissent, the leaders of the Citizen Action Party–Sikkim stood their ground, sending a clear message that democracy in Sikkim cannot be silenced by coercion or fear.

Reflecting on the incident, Shri Ganesh Rai had remarked that “the people’s voice is the foundation of democracy and when that voice is threatened, it becomes the duty of every citizen to rise against injustice.”

To commemorate this act of courage and resistance, the Citizen Action Party–Sikkim will formally observe “Black Day” on 28th October 2025 at the District Party Office, Gyalshing, West Sikkim. The event will bring together party workers, leaders, and supporters to reaffirm the party’s commitment to democratic values, transparency, and political reform.

The observance will also serve as a reminder to the people of Sikkim that the struggle for truth and justice continues. Through this symbolic act, the Citizen Action Party–Sikkim seeks to honor those who have stood fearlessly in defense of democracy and to inspire the youth to uphold integrity and reform in public life.
The CAP–Sikkim firmly believes that true progress cannot exist without freedom, justice, and accountability, and that the spirit of democracy must always triumph over suppression.
