NCHAC Issues Fresh Notice for Annual Renewal of A.K. Pattas.

NAH: The Settlement & Revenue Department of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) has issued a fresh notice directing all Gaon Buras across Dima Hasao district to inform A.K. Patta holders within their respective villages to renew their A.K. Pattas annually by paying the prescribed land revenue (Khajna).

The notice, issued on July 28, 2026, partially modifies an earlier notification dated July 21, 2026. A.K. Patta holders have been given two months from the date of the notice to complete the renewal process.

The Revenue Department has cautioned that failure to renew the A.K. Patta and pay the required land revenue within the stipulated period may result in the cancellation of the land allotment. The notification has also been circulated to Mouzadars, Gaon Buras, and Patwaris across the district for necessary action and public awareness.

ADSU Welcomes Assam Government's Recognition of Badarpur Fort's Dimasa Heritage.

NAH: The All Dimasa Students' Union (ADSU) has welcomed the recent statement made by Assam Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog in the Assam Legislative Assembly regarding the historical significance of Badarpur Fort.

ADSU stated that, based on official records and archival evidence, the Minister confirmed that Badarpur Fort was constructed during the reign of Raja Govinda Chandra Narayan Hasnu of the Dimasa Kachari Kingdom. The Union also welcomed the government's assurance that the fort is protected under the Assam Ancient Monuments and Records Act, 1959, and that efforts are underway to develop it as a heritage tourism destination.

The ADSU highlighted that the Badarpur Treaty, signed on March 6, 1824, at the fort between Raja Govinda Chandra Narayan Hasnu and David Scott of the East India Company, remains a landmark event in the political history of the erstwhile Kachari Kingdom.

The student body further supported MLA Kamalakya Dey Purkayastha's proposal to rename the site as "Govinda Chandra Narayan Hasnu Fort" or "Govinda Chandra Narayan Hasnu Memorial Park," along with the installation of a statue of the Dimasa ruler to honour his legacy.

Calling it a significant step toward preserving the authentic history of the Dimasa Kingdom, ADSU urged the Assam Government to implement the recommendations without delay, stating that safeguarding the monument would strengthen regional pride and promote sustainable cultural tourism.
