Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan Flagged Off in Haflong to Empower Farmers with Modern Agricultural Practices
Haflong, May 29, 2025:The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a pre-Kharif national campaign launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, was officially flagged off today with much enthusiasm at the Cultural Hall in Haflong. The campaign, which will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025, aims to reach farmers across all districts with a focus on scientific farming and government welfare schemes.
In Dima Hasao district, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) has been entrusted with organizing the campaign in coordination with multiple departments under the district administration.
Addressing the inaugural event, CEM Debolal Gorlosa emphasized the need for coordination among the Fishery, Forest, and Irrigation departments to enhance support for farmers. He also encouraged villagers to diversify their crops beyond rice, recommending the cultivation of commonly consumed vegetables such as potatoes, brinjals, and chillies. He stressed that locally grown organic produce would improve food quality and ensure self-reliance.
Assam Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, interacted with farmers and underscored the importance of empowering them through modern techniques and better access to government schemes. “Through this campaign, we aim to connect farmers directly with scientific knowledge, technology, and support systems to boost their productivity and income,” she stated.
Rasmitha Saikia, Agriculture Extension Officer, elaborated on the campaign's objectives. A dedicated team of experts, scientists, and departmental representatives will visit six villages to engage directly with farmers, listen to their challenges, and offer tailored solutions.
Officials from various departments also briefed farmers on central government schemes like PM-KISAN, PMMSYand PMKSY, highlighting their features and benefits to raise awareness among the rural farming community.
The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries including Donphainon Thaosen (EM, NCHAC), Dhriti Thaosen (MAC and Vice Chairman of DPB),John Phoithong (MAC), Herojit Jidung (MAC),Joint Secretary Prabat Pegu, agricultural experts, farmers, and departmental officials.
