‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ Campaign Launched in Dima Hasao on World Environment Da
Haflong, 5th June 2025:To mark World Environment Day, a central programme was held at Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Haflong, with active participation from students, teachers, and dignitaries. The event, organized under the joint initiative of the Education and Forest Departments with guidance from the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), was themed *“Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.”*

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of NCHAC, Debolal Gorlosa, graced the occasion as chief guest and formally launched the second phase of the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0.”The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from students and their mothers, who together planted ornamental saplings within the school campus.

CEM Gorlosa described the campaign as “a heartfelt tribute to our mothers, connecting the love we hold for them with meaningful action for the Earth.” He urged students to be disciplined and dedicated in their studies to achieve success and make positive contributions to society.

EM Donphainon Thaosen, Education in-charge, expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized that such initiatives foster long-term environmental consciousness and action among communities. He called for collective responsibility in preserving the environment beyond just World Environment Day.

Other speakers included Rebecca Changsan, Joint Secretary, NCHAC; Tuhin Langthasa, Divisional Forest Officer (West Division); and Roialson Rongpi, Additional Director of Education.

Prominent attendees at the event included Mohet Hojai, Chairman, NCHAC; Samuel Changsan, EM; Flaming Rupsy Shylla, MAC; John Phoitong, MAC; Madhabi Thaosen, DPEO; and other officials from various departments and institutions.

The programme highlighted the power of collaborative efforts in promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship in Dima Hasao.

ASDMA Holds Monsoon Preparedness Review Meeting in Haflong
Haflong, 5th June 2025:The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dima Hasao and the District Administration, held a comprehensive review meeting on Wednesday at the District Commissioner’s conference hall in Haflong. The session brought together all Heads of Departments (HODs) of line departments to assess disaster preparedness measures ahead of the monsoon season.

The review was conducted by State Nodal Officers in the presence of District Commissioner Simanta Kr. Das, ACS; Dharma Kanta Mili, ACS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Revenue & Disaster Management; Dipankar Das, ACS, Joint Secretary, Revenue & DM; Ankur Bikash Dev, PO DRR, ASDMA; and Mukunda Upadhyay from UNICEF.

The meeting featured in-depth discussions on strategies and protocols for handling potential disasters, particularly flash floods and landslides, which frequently affect the region during monsoon. Mukunda Upadhyay of UNICEF highlighted the need to reinforce district-level response mechanisms and emphasized effective flood response, relief camp management, and coordination.

Sangeeta Devi, ACS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, delivered a presentation on the district's profile and current conditions at sites impacted by recent heavy rainfall. The nodal officers commended the preparedness level of the departments and proposed additional mitigation strategies to minimize recurrent seasonal damage.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening disaster resilience across Dima Hasao.

All educational institutions to remain closed in Dima Hasao , movement of heavy commercial vehicles restricted
Haflong, 30th May 2025 : As per the warning received from the Indian Meteorological Department, Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, regarding the severe weather, it is expected to heavy winds and heavy rainfall over Assam, including Dima Hasao, from 30 May 2025 to 2 June ,2025.
Considering the serious nature of the situation and in order to prevent loss of life and property, In an order Simanta Kr. Das, ACS, District Commissioner cm Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dima Hasao, hereby exercise the powers under section 30(2)(V) and 30 (2)(XVIII) of the Disaster Management Act 2005, and issue this order.
Effective Date and Time of Restriction:
All educational institutions are to remain closed on 31st May 2025. However the compartmental examination will go on as per SEBA schedule.
Starting from 8 PM tonight (30th May 2025 to 02nd June 2025), the movement of heavy commercial vehicles on the Jatinga - Harangajao stretch is restricted till 02nd June 2025.
The Agriculture, PWD(R&B), APDCL, Irrigation, Soil Conservation, A.H & Vetty, Health, PHE Departments will issue directions to their field-level staff to be on alert and share information related to damages with DDMA immediately. They will also be responsible for taking the necessary restoration works promptly.
All members of the public are requested to stay indoors during rain unless it is for emergency or medical purposes. The public is requested to remain alert in case of any emergency that may occur due to natural disasters.
All Block Level Disaster Management Teams are to be on high alert.
Any violations or discrepancies in adherence to this order will be dealt with in accordance to the Section 51(b) of Disaster Management Act 2005.

Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan Flagged Off in Haflong to Empower Farmers with Modern Agricultural Practices

Haflong, May 29, 2025:The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a pre-Kharif national campaign launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, was officially flagged off today with much enthusiasm at the Cultural Hall in Haflong. The campaign, which will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025, aims to reach farmers across all districts with a focus on scientific farming and government welfare schemes.

In Dima Hasao district, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) has been entrusted with organizing the campaign in coordination with multiple departments under the district administration.

Addressing the inaugural event, CEM Debolal Gorlosa emphasized the need for coordination among the Fishery, Forest, and Irrigation departments to enhance support for farmers. He also encouraged villagers to diversify their crops beyond rice, recommending the cultivation of commonly consumed vegetables such as potatoes, brinjals, and chillies. He stressed that locally grown organic produce would improve food quality and ensure self-reliance.

Assam Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, interacted with farmers and underscored the importance of empowering them through modern techniques and better access to government schemes. “Through this campaign, we aim to connect farmers directly with scientific knowledge, technology, and support systems to boost their productivity and income,” she stated.

Rasmitha Saikia, Agriculture Extension Officer, elaborated on the campaign's objectives. A dedicated team of experts, scientists, and departmental representatives will visit six villages to engage directly with farmers, listen to their challenges, and offer tailored solutions.

Officials from various departments also briefed farmers on central government schemes like PM-KISAN, PMMSYand PMKSY, highlighting their features and benefits to raise awareness among the rural farming community.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries including Donphainon Thaosen (EM, NCHAC), Dhriti Thaosen (MAC and Vice Chairman of DPB),John Phoithong (MAC), Herojit Jidung (MAC),Joint Secretary Prabat Pegu, agricultural experts, farmers, and departmental officials.
