Dimarua(Dimuria) & its background history
During the early 17th century, Dimuria (Dimarua) was a strategic province in the Nagaon district of Assam, serving as a vital western frontier and a buffer state against the Jaintia and Ahom kingdoms. It was governed by the Dimasa Kachari Kingdom during the reign of the powerful Kachari King Satrudaman (also known as Pratap Narayan), whose capital was located in Maibang.
Under King Satrudaman's reign, the dynamic in Dimuria included:
• Jaintia Conflict: The control of Dimuria triggered a major conflict with the Jaintia Kingdom. Satrudaman defeated the Jaintia King (Dhan Manik) and subsequently installed a puppet ruler, Jasa Manik, on the Jaintia throne as the consequences of kidnapping king’s man by Jaintia king from Dimarua.
• Expanding Territory: Satrudaman's domain was vast, spanning the Dhansiri valley, North Cachar (including Maibang), Dimurua (Nagaon), parts of the Cachar plains, and eastern Sylhet.
• Coinage: Following his victories and conquest of Sylhet, Satrudaman became one of the Kachari Kings to strike coins in his own name.
Because Satrudaman focused on maintaining a strong western frontier in Dimuria, his reign saw recurring tensions and battles with the expanding Ahom Kingdom.
