🚨 ₹1.68 Lakh in Unauthorised UPI Transactions — A Serious Question of Banking Security
On 3 August 2026, three UPI transactions totalling ₹1,68,000 were made from two bank accounts belonging to Intazar, without his knowledge or consent.

A complaint has already been lodged through the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
The issue is not merely the loss of money. It raises a wider question about the effectiveness of fraud detection and transaction-monitoring systems in digital banking.
When unusually high-value transactions take place within a short period, what preventive checks are undertaken by banks? Was the transaction pattern flagged? What authentication and device trail is available? Were the beneficiary accounts traced or placed under a hold?
Every UPI transaction cannot reasonably require a telephone call for confirmation. However, effective risk-based monitoring and timely intervention are essential to protect customers.
The immediate priorities should be:
• Trace and secure the funds
• Initiate the UPI dispute and recovery process
• Examine the authentication and device trail
• Investigate the beneficiary accounts
• Provide the customer with a clear explanation of what occurred
Digital banking can succeed only when convenience is matched by robust security and effective customer protection.
