Bus Plunge in Pakistan Kills at Least 40
The vehicle plunged down a ravine while traveling more than 300 miles from Quetta to the port city of Karachi.
A bus in southwestern Pakistan plunged into a ravine and caught on fire, killing at least 40 people aboard, a government official said on Sunday.

The bus had been traveling overnight between Quetta, the capital of Balochistan Province, to the port city of Karachi when it crashed into a pillar of a bridge and fell into the ravine, according to Dawn, a national newspaper.

Petrol price likely to rise from Feb 1

KARACHI: In line with the government's aim to please convince the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Ministry of Finance is expected to increase the price of petroleum price in the upcoming fortnightly review, The News reported on Saturday.

It should be noted that the massive depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar in the last two days would not reflect greatly in the review due on January 31 (Tuesday) as the average exchange rate would clock in at Rs240, information gathered from the country's oil sector showed.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Friday said that his government would be able to strike an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the ninth review of the Extended Fund Facility, during the current month.

“I am hopeful that we will reach an agreement with the IMF this month and we will come out of these difficulties and then multilateral and bilateral institutions will work with us,” the premier said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Green Line Express Train Service at the Margalla Train Station.

روپے کی ریکارڈ تنزلی کہاں جا کر رُکے گی اور ڈالر کی قدر میں بے تحاشا اضافے کے کیا اثرات ہوں گے؟
جمعرات کے دن پاکستان میں امریکی ڈالر کے مقابلے میں مقامی کرنسی کی قدر میں اچانک تیزی سے کمی ہوئی جس سے صرف دو دن قبل ہی پاکستان میں زرِ مبادلہ کی ایکسچینج کمپنیوں نے اعلان کیا تھا کہ ڈالر کی قیمت پر لگایا جانے والا کیپ ختم کر دیا جائے گا۔
جمعرات کے روز کاروبار کے اختتام پر ایک ڈالر کی قیمت تقریبا 25 روپے اضافے کے ساتھ 255 روپے پر بند ہوئی جو ایک دن میں روپے کی قدر میں کمی کا نیا ریکارڈ ہے۔
ڈالر کی قدر میں اضافہ ایک ایسے وقت میں ہوا ہے جب پاکستان کو ایک معاشی بحران کا سامنا ہے جس میں زرمبادلہ ذخائر بھی چار ارب ڈالر سے کم رہ چکے ہیں۔ دوسری جانب حکومت اس بحران سے نمٹنے کے لیے بین الاقوامی مالیاتی فنڈ (آئی ایم ایف) کی جانب دیکھ رہی ہے۔
