Established in 1982, the Ganesh Utsav Samiti of Maratha Galli, Hubli, has a rich tradition of installing Ganesh idols, marking a significant cultural event in the city. Since 1995, the Samiti has gained widespread recognition by erecting Ganesh idols towering 15 feet or more, capturing the public's admiration. In a landmark decision in 1999, the Samiti committed to installing only eco-friendly Ganesh idols, a practice that continues to this day. Every year, thousands of devotees from Hubli and surrounding cities flock to seek blessings from the magnificently crafted idol, which typically stands at an impressive 21 feet. The idol is adorned with silver feet, golden teeth, and gold rings on Ganesha’s fingers, reflecting regal opulence. The creation of this grand idol is entrusted to a skilled team of 12-15 artists from Kolkata, West Bengal, who, under the expert guidance of senior artists Appu Pal and Sapan Pal, complete the masterpiece in 25-30 days. This tradition, steeped in artistry and devotion, remains a cornerstone of Hubli’s cultural heritage.
