Railway Police seize ₹1.22 crore Hawala Money on Devagiri Express; one Arrested at Secunderabad
A 40-year-old man transporting from to aboard the was arrested by the GRP and RPF at , he was found carrying a bag containing ₹1,22,70,000 and failed to produce any valid documents explaining the source or purpose of the money. He was taken into custody for questioning.
The accused, identified as Vijay Ambadas Gupta, a resident of Amaravati district in Maharashtra, was apprehended on Tuesday, during a joint checking operation conducted between Bollaram and Malkajgiri railway stations.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had collected the cash from an individual identified as Santosh Seth, who runs Kantha Jewellery in Mumbai, and was instructed to deliver it to another person named Banti, associated with a jewellery shop at Monda Market in Secunderabad. He was offered ₹5,000 for transporting the cash.
