π¦ India Emerges as a Global Leader in Beef Exports: High Volume Shipments to Over 70 Countries
India has rapidly strengthened its position in the global beef export market, with shipments crossing record volumes in recent months. According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce, India exported over 1.5 million metric tonnes of frozen boneless buffalo meat (commonly referred to as beef in international markets) in the last financial year, generating revenue exceeding βΉ30,000 crore.
Key export destinations include Vietnam, Malaysia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia, with new markets emerging in Central Asia and Africa. Despite domestic sensitivities, the export industry operates under strict regulations, ensuring that only meat from government-approved slaughterhouses is shipped abroad.
Industry experts say Indiaβs competitive edge lies in its low production cost, HALAL certification, and consistent supply, making it a preferred supplier in Muslim-majority nations.
βIndiaβs beef export sector contributes significantly to rural employment, foreign exchange earnings, and agribusiness growth,β said Rajiv Kumar, Director of the All India Meat Exporters Association.
The government is also working on boosting infrastructure through modern cold storage chains, better port connectivity, and digital export documentation systems to streamline processes and maintain quality standards.
