Konidela Pawan Kalyan, born Kalyan Babu on 2 September 1971, is an Indian actor and politician from Andhra Pradesh. He made his acting debut with Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi in 1996 and went on to establish himself in Telugu cinema with films such as Tholi Prema, Thammudu, Badri, Kushi, Jalsa, Gabbar Singh, Attarintiki Daredi and Bheemla Nayak. His work in cinema earned him major recognition, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Gabbar Singh. In March 2014, he founded the Jana Sena Party and entered electoral politics. Jana Sena did not contest the 2014 Assembly election, while Pawan Kalyan supported the TDP-BJP alliance. In the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, he contested from Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram but was defeated in both constituencies. He continued his political work and launched the Varahi Vijaya Yatra in 2023, travelling across Andhra Pradesh and meeting people. In the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, Pawan Kalyan won the Pithapuram constituency, while Jana Sena won all 21 Assembly seats it contested and both Lok Sabha seats it contested. On 12 June 2024, he took oath as a minister in the Andhra Pradesh government and became Deputy Chief Minister. He currently serves as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and represents Pithapuram in the Legislative Assembly, with responsibilities including Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Rural Water Supply, along with Environment, Forests, and Science & Technology portfolios. As of September 2026, Pawan Kalyan continues his political responsibilities while remaining one of the prominent names associated with Telugu cinema and Andhra Pradesh public life.
