A heartbreaking incident occurred during the Ganesh immersion festivities in Virajpet late Friday night. 🚨🙏

As a procession of decorated platforms (mantapas) was moving through the area, an overhead electric wire accidentally came into contact with a DJ vehicle. The sudden electric shock caused immense panic, leading to five people falling unconscious. In one terrifying moment, a person's clothes caught fire following the shock.

Two individuals, including Basavaraju from Hubballi-Dharwad, are currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at a hospital in Mysuru. The remaining three victims have been admitted to the district hospital in Madikeri for care.

Local authorities responded promptly. District Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindumani and other officials inspected the scene to investigate the mishap. Additionally, Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna visited the hospital to speak with doctors and check on the recovery of the injured.

Around 250 residential students of Bisipur Ashram School in Odisha were forced to take to the streets, walking nearly 8 kilometres to protest against horrific hostel conditions and administrative neglect.

For over two months, these students have been living without drinking water or electricity. Even worse, they allege they are being served insect-infested rice on a daily basis. Despite repeatedly complaining to the hostel matron and headmaster, no corrective action was taken, and students claim they were scolded for speaking up.

Driven by pure frustration, they marched towards the Block Development Office before being stopped by authorities at Khunta Chowk.
