Pipili’s famous Chandua Appliqué Craft is a centuries-old textile tradition of Odisha, believed to have originated to create decorative canopies, umbrellas, and ceremonial coverings for Lord Jagannath’s annual Ratha Jatra.
What makes this craft unique is its process. Artisans carefully hand-cut colourful pieces of fabric and stitch them onto a larger base cloth to create intricate motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and everyday life.
Today, this vibrant art form continues to thrive in Pipili, where generations of artisans keep the tradition alive through handcrafted wall hangings, lampshades, bags, home décor, and ceremonial textiles.
More than just fabric and thread, every piece carries a story of colour, creativity, and Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. ✨
