Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has welcomed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, saying that unity among Muslim nations can help them face challenges together. He called for greater regional solidarity and reliance on the capabilities of Muslim countries rather than depending on foreign powers.

The agreement, signed in Mecca on August 7, states that an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three. The pact is aimed at strengthening collective deterrence and defence cooperation, while the signatories have described it as defensive in nature.

Mumbai, Maharashtra: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that authorities had identified certain books and publications available on the internet and dark web that allegedly promote large-scale radicalisation, including material related to making explosives and carrying out attacks.

Fadnavis said that earlier there was no specific law to expressly prohibit such material, but a newly approved law now provides a legal mechanism to ban it. He described the move as an appropriate step to prevent the circulation of content that could contribute to radicalisation and violence.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is reportedly in critical condition and has been rushed to a hospital, according to claims carried by Israeli media. However, Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed the reports, so the information remains unverified.

The reports have triggered renewed speculation over Khamenei’s health and his ability to continue carrying out his duties. Earlier reports had also raised questions about his health following injuries sustained during the conflict, although Iranian officials have previously given differing accounts of his condition.

Fresh reporting has also suggested that senior Iranian officials are concerned about his health, with some reportedly discussing the possibility of his condition worsening. However, no independent confirmation of the latest hospitalisation claim has emerged so far.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have signed a historic defense agreement in Jeddah, with a key clause stating that an attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three. The development has sparked major questions about whether a new strategic Muslim defense bloc is emerging in the region.

The meeting brought together Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir also present.

The agreement comes at a time when the Middle East is facing serious instability, while tensions involving the United States and Iran have placed the Gulf region under growing pressure.

Meanwhile, major developments are also being reported around the Strait of Hormuz. Oman is reportedly playing a key role in backchannel efforts between Iran and the United States, while discussions over reopening the strategic waterway and transit arrangements continue.

Could this new Saudi-Pakistan-Türkiye defense partnership change the balance of power in the Middle East? And will the developments around the Strait of Hormuz bring stability to global oil markets—or remain only a temporary arrangement?

AISA national president Neha Bora was allegedly targeted with ink during a student protest march towards the Jharkhand Assembly in Ranchi on Friday. Police detained the man accused of throwing the ink. The protest was linked to allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations.

Bora alleged that the attack was carried out by people associated with the BJP and RSS, while the detained man reportedly told reporters that he targeted her because of her support for Umar Khalid. Bora later said, “I wear this ink with pride,” and maintained that the incident would not intimidate her or weaken the student movement.

The protesters are demanding transparent and fair recruitment examinations, accountability over alleged irregularities and action against agencies facing allegations of corruption. The Jharkhand government has also initiated talks with representatives of the protesting students.

The Delhi High Court questioned whether Jantar Mantar should continue to be used as a designated protest site, observing that protests in a central part of the capital can affect traffic, security and emergency services. The remarks were made while hearing a petition by the All India Dalit Christian Rights Protection Committee, which had sought permission to hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar on August 10.

The petitioner told the court that around 75 people were expected to participate and that its request had been pending with the Delhi Police since July 9. The court clarified that decisions regarding law and order fall within the police's domain and directed the Delhi Police to decide on the application by August 8 and inform the petitioner.

During the hearing, the court also noted that the Supreme Court is considering a separate matter concerning Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue. An alternative location such as Ramlila Maidan has been suggested, with the broader issue involving public inconvenience, traffic movement, security and access for emergency services.
