On Saturday (25Aug) - YouTuber, Sagar Kundu, was swept away while filming Reels At Duduma Waterfall In Odisha.
Rescue teams comprising police, fire personnel, and ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) continued their search on Monday, but no trace of him has been reported.
Here are 5 Viral-Video attempts that resulted in tragedies.
1. Waterfall selfie gone wrong â Hong Kong (2021)
Influencer Sophia Cheung, 32, died after slipping while trying to take a selfie near a waterfall at Ha Pak Lai/Pineapple Mountain.
2. Crane-top filming fatality â Quzhou, China (2021)
Xiao Qiumei, 23, a crane-operator influencer, fell ~160 ft while recording a short video from her crane cabin; the clip ended abruptly as she fell.
3. Livestream turned lethal â Moscow region, Russia (2020; sentence 2021)
Streamer Stas âReeflayâ Reshetnyak forced his girlfriend outside in freezing weather on a live broadcast; she died of hypothermia. He received a 6-year sentence.
4. TikTok gun stunt â Bareilly, India (2020)
An 18-year-old died when a loaded revolver went off during a TikTok shoot; he had pressed his mother to hand over the gun for the video.
5. Train-door selfie â Sri Lanka (2025)
Olga Perminova, 53, a Russian tourist, leaned out of a moving train to take a selfie, struck a rock, fell, and later died in hospital.
The bigger picture?
A cross-country study counted 259 selfie-related deaths in 137 incidents (Oct 2011âNov 2017); the mean age ~23.
Leading causes: drowning, transport, falls.
India recorded the highest share.

No number of likes, shares, or followers is worth risking your life.
