A proud moment for Hyderabad and India! Faizan Zaki, a 13-year-old originally from Hyderabad and now living in Allen, Texas, has won the 97th Scripps National Spelling Bee by correctly spelling “éclaircissement,” meaning “the clearing up of something obscure: enlightenment.”

Faizan’s remarkable journey:

Representing the Dallas Sports Commission, Faizan became only the fifth person in the Bee’s history to win after being the runner-up the previous year.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the education sector, offering remarkable advantages such as personalized learning, improved teaching efficiency, and reduced administrative workload. However, its integration also brings forward critical concerns, particularly around data privacy and the disruption of traditional teaching models.

Syed Sultan Ahmed, Chairperson of The Association of International Schools of India (TAISI), shares his perspective on how AI can be a powerful tool in the hands of educators. He stresses that while AI can streamline operations and tailor education to individual student needs, it must not overshadow the essential role of teachers.

“Technology can assist, but it cannot replace the human connection that forms the heart of effective teaching,” Ahmed remarked.

In a significant shift from previous years, NEET-UG 2025 proved to be one of the toughest editions of the medical entrance examination, with experts asserting that no candidate is likely to score a perfect 720 this year. Conducted on May 4 by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam saw over 23 lakh aspirants appear nationwide with dreams of securing a seat in premier institutions like AIIMS and other top medical colleges.

According to Surendra, a senior academic from the renowned coaching institute VMC (Vidya Mandir Classes), the paper was deliberately made tougher—especially the Physics and Chemistry sections, which tested students' conceptual clarity and problem-solving abilities to the core. “The Physics paper was extremely lengthy and calculative, while the Chemistry section had a flawed question with dual correct options,” Surendra noted.
