A retired schoolteacher from the city fell victim to an online scam after listing her furniture for sale on an e-commerce site, losing Rs. 90,000 to cyber fraudsters.

The complainant, a resident of Sadguru Nagar in LB Nagar, had recently posted an advertisement to sell her furniture. Police said a man contacted her via WhatsApp from the number 9829718568, expressing interest in purchasing the items.

The family of rowdy sheeter Shaik Riyaz, who was killed in an 'encounter' at the Nizamabad government hospital, met Telangana director general of police ( DGP), B Shivadhar Reddy in Hyderabad and urged him to conduct a fair inquiry.

Riyaz’s mother alleged that the police killed her son in a fake encounter to cover their misdeeds.

She claimed that members of her family were taken to a womens’ police station and beaten with leather bats and had chilli powder in their eyes as well as their private parts. They also complained that police officers tortured Riyaz’s children to extract information about his whereabouts.

Riyaz, who had over 30 cases registered against him, fatally stabbed a Nizamabad police constable, E Pramod and escaped. He was caught two days later but shot dead at the Nizamabad Government Hospital during the routine medical checkup.

Police claimed he tried to attack an official.

The rowdy sheeter‘s family alleged Constable Pramod had demanded Rs 3 lakh from him, and Riyaz had paid him Rs 30,000. They alleged the constable was not on duty and had gone to meet Riyaz along with his brother-in-law.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao once again displayed his humanitarian side by facilitating the return of a Gulf migrant who was stranded in Muscat, back to his native village in the district.

A native of Baswapur in Thangallapalli mandal, Balasani Gouraiah had gone to Muscat two months ago in search of employment. However, upon reaching there, he realised he had been deceived by an agent. The company not only failed to pay him the promised salary but also seized his passport, leaving him helpless.

Facing severe hardship, Gouraiah recorded a selfie video narrating his ordeal and shared it in local WhatsApp groups. Responding swiftly, Rama Rao wrote to the Indian Embassy in Muscat on October 12, seeking assistance to secure Gouraiah's release and facilitate his return.

Following the intervention, Gouraiah's passport was retrieved and financial aid was arranged to cover his travel expenses. He landed at Hyderabad airport on Monday morning and became emotional upon reuniting with his family, saying he had never imagined returning to India.

Gouraiah expressed gratitude to Rama Rao for his timely help and also thanked social activist Sheik Mohammad for extending support in his repatriation.

Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy is set to address members of the film unions in Hyderabad on Tuesday, October 28 ahead of Jubilee Hills by-polls.

The event, organised by the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation and the 24 crafts union will be held at Police Ground in Yousufguda. The associations have organised the meeting to express gratitude to CM Revanth for resolving the issues between between the film producers and craftsmen.

The felicitation is being seen as a platform to boost the Congress party’s campaign for the Jubilee Hills by-election. While the guest list remains undisclosed, all eyes are on Akkineni Nagarjuna and Allu Arjun, whose presence would signal that the differences between the government and the industry have been fully resolved.

Reddy will hold a series of roadshows on October 30 and 31, and again on November 4 and 5, as the campaign enters its final stretch. Congress leaders said his active participation is meant to consolidate the Congress's position in the constituency, where internal assessments suggest a favourable trend.

Several cabinet members have already been canvassing in the area, with three ministers assigned specific zones for booth management. Naveen Yadav has been fielded as the Congress candidate for the Jubilee Hills by elections against Maganti Sunitha of the Bharat Rahstra Samithi (BRS).

The by-election will be held on November 11 and result will be declared on November 14.
