| A case was registered against the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA)'s junior selection panel chairman and two members after the father of an Under-19 player accused them of demanding bribes, police said on Thursday.

The complainant alleged that the panel did not follow the selection procedure, excluded deserving players and dropped them despite them performing well in the matches of division group level, a police official said.

He further alleged that there was "massive" corruption by the junior selection committee over the past three seasons.

| Nestle, the Swiss food giant whose brands include Nespresso coffee and Perrier water, will eliminate 16,000 jobs worldwide over the next two years, its new chief executive said on Thursday.

"The world is changing, and Nestle needs to change faster," Philipp Navratil, who took the reins of the multinational in early September, said in a statement.

That included making "hard but necessary decisions to reduce headcount", he said.

| Gold prices on Thursday surged by Rs 1,185 to scale an all-time high of Rs 1,28,395 per 10 grams in the domestic futures trade, while the yellow metal crossed the USD 4,250 per ounce globally, driven by expectations of interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve, and persistent geopolitical tensions.

| The Enforcement Directorate has filed a chargesheet against YouTuber Siddharth Yadav alias Elvish Yadav, his friend and singer Rahul Yadav alias Fazilpuriya apart from two others, and charged them with money laundering in an alleged wildlife crime involving protected snakes and lizards, official sources said.

| The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the Telangana Government’s Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the Telangana High Court’s interim stay on Government Order (GO) No. 9, dated September 26, 2025, which had enhanced reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies from 25% to 42%.

The apex court directed the State Government to proceed with local body elections by adhering to the 50% ceiling on total reservations, as mandated by previous Supreme Court rulings.

Supreme Court Dismisses Telangana Govt’s Plea On BC Quota Hike In Local Body Elections

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the plea filed by the State of Telangana against the High Court's interim order staying the implementation of 42% reservation for Backward Classes in the local body polls. A bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta dismissed the petition and clarified that the High Court should decide the matter on merits.

| The church-run public school in Palluruthy here, where a dispute arose over a student wearing a hijab, will approach the Kerala High Court against the Deputy Director of Education's (DDE) report alleging lapses on the part of the institution.

Joshi Kaithavalappil, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) president of St Rita's Public School, told PTI that the DDE's report was submitted without a proper inquiry. 'We have decided to approach the Kerala High Court against the report. It was prepared without hearing from the school management or the PTA properly or assessing the situation.'

The PTA also denied reports that it demanded a written undertaking from the parents that the child would attend school without wearing a hijab
