Internationally acclaimed Manipuri film Boong featured as a current affairs question in the 2026 Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
The 2 marks carrying question was a part of the Paper 1 (General Studies)'s A section question paper.

Speaking to Imphalgram, Arina (21) a resident of Mayang Langjing who appeared her prelims in Guwahati today shared her excitement over Boong making it to her UPSC question paper. "I felt very really happy when I saw the question. And it was indeed a proud moment as a Manipuri" she added.

PERSON TRACED ⚠️ STOP SHARING 🛑

34-year-old Potsangbam Robart (Father’s name: Potsangbam Nabin) from Ramnagar Tuko in Silchar who apparently went to Imphal in search of work has gone untraceable.

According to Robart’s sister Potsangbam Promis Singha, the family based in Silchar had last spoken to Robart 2 months back on a phone call, in the month of March. His cell phone has been switched off and he’s not come online on Facebook/WhatsApp for a long time now, though we have been trying to get in touch with him constantly, Promis added.

She also further added that her brother was an introvert and would keep things to himself most of the times. He would rarely share his whereabouts or give much updates about his day to day life.

According to various news reports, as of 18th May 2026, an estimated 20 individuals remain held hostage amid escalating tensions in Manipur. The standoff began on May 13 following the ambush and killing of three church leaders in the Kangpokpi district.

The breakdown of the remaining captives is disputed by community leaders on both sides:

Kuki Hostages: Kuki-Zo organizations report that 14 members of their community (including three students) remain in captivity.

Naga Hostages: Naga apex bodies report that 6 Naga community members remain untraced and are believed to be held by Kuki groups.

While an initial group of 28 hostages (14 from each community) was safely released on May 15 following negotiations by security forces and civil leaders, the situation remains tense. Apex Naga body: United Naga Council (UNC) have launched an inter-district blockade on the highways in the Naga areas in Manipur with immediate effect demanding safe recovery.

While the The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) have extended the shutdown by another 48 hrs on Sunday. The state government and security forces are continuing search and rescue operations.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes in Manipur, on Friday, May 15, extended its ongoing 48-hour total shutdown by another 48 hours, claiming that 14 Kuki civilians continue to remain in illegal detention despite the release of 14 others earlier yesterday.
