The direct rail connectivity between Mizoram and the rest of the country will offer the people of the region safe, efficient, and cost-effective travel options.

The ₹8,070-crore Bairabi-Sairang railway line, considered one of the most challenging in Indian Railways’ history, was sanctioned in 2008-09 and construction began in 2015.

BJP National Spokesperson and MP Dr. Sambit Patra, BJP North East Coordinator and Manipur in-charge Dr. Ajit Gopchade, Rajya Sabha MP arrived in Imphal today ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Manipur on September 13.

The two leaders were received at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport by BJP Manipur Pradesh President Adhikarimayum Sarda Devi, MLA Sapam Ranjan, and other party functionaries.

Party sources indicated that the visit of the two central leaders could be linked to discussions on the possible formation of a popular government in the state, as well as preparations for mobilising public participation during the Prime Minister’s visit. Speculation has also grown following indications from some BJP MLAs belonging to the Kuki-Zomi community, who have reportedly expressed willingness to support such a development.

According to sources, a closed-door meeting of BJP MLAs and senior leaders was convened at the party’s state headquarters, Thambal Sanglen, later in the evening. The meeting was expected to be attended by former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabarta, and all BJP legislators.

At least 14 people have been reported killed as police fired at protesters, mostly Nepal’s tech-savvy Generation Z, on Monday (September 8, 2025) who took over the streets of Kathmandu and other major cities to protest against corruption and the government’s recent ban on social media platforms.

Officials said seven people died at the National Trauma Centre, three at Everest Hospital, two at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and one at KMC Hospital. More than 200 injured individuals are being treated at various hospitals across Kathmandu.

The Kathmandu District Administration Office imposed a curfew from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. in several areas, including Baneshwor, Sh*tal Niwas (the President’s residence), Lainchaur (Vice-President’s residence), Baluwatar (Prime Minister’s residence), and Singha Durbar (the government complex). “Movement, gatherings, demonstrations, or encirclement of these areas are strictly prohibited,” said Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal.
