POLITICAL HYPOCRISY? SERIOUS QUESTIONS FOR THE MANIPUR GOVERNMENT

Smt. Nemcha Kipgen, wife of Semtinthang Kipgen, president of the Kuki National Front (KNF), reportedly met with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and Deputy Chief Minister today at Kangpokpi.

The KNF has faced serious allegations of armed activities, extortion and highway looting. Yet the wife of its president is reportedly being received by the highest political leadership of Manipur.

How can a government that claims to stand against armed groups, extortion and highway looting simultaneously provide political access and recognition to the family of a group leader facing such allegations?

Is this selective politics, political compromise, or outright double standards?

If the government is serious about law and order, it must explain why individuals linked to leaders of groups accused of terror, extortion and highway looting are being given access to the state’s top leadership.

Manipur deserves answers—not political double standards.

The Kacha Nagas of Manipur celebrated the 11th anniversary of the NSCN-IM Framework Agreement with the Government of India in Manipur. They stood together in support of Greater Nagaland, chanting "Long Live Nagalim." The proposed Greater Nagalim includes all non-Kuki and non-Meitei areas of Manipur.

"A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" Allegations of Militants Disguising Themselves as Village Guards

Yesterday, personnel of the 207 CRPF CoBRA Battalion were conducting a search operation in Noney district, Manipur, when they were allegedly ambushed by Kacha Nagas Terrorists NSCN-IM and ZUF-Kamson militants. Two security personnel sustained serious injuries in the attack. In response, the CoBRA launched a counter-operation and reportedly uncovered an alleged NSCN-IM militant camp at Betiang Village, Noney district.

Following the operation, claims emerged alleging that security forces had attacked "Naga Village Guards." However, according to the allegations surrounding the operation, the individuals involved were terrorist, not legitimate village guards. It is alleged that the "Village Guard" identity was used as a cover to mislead the public, evade scrutiny, and generate sympathy.

The phrase "a wolf in sheep's clothing" aptly describes this allegation—appearing harmless on the outside while allegedly concealing a militant identity underneath. If these allegations are accurate, then presenting armed militants as ordinary village guards is not only deceptive but also undermines public trust and exploits the reputation of genuine civilian volunteers.

Two personnel of the 207 CoBRA Battalion sustained serious splinter injuries in a deadly ambush allegedly carried out by Kacha Nagas NSCN-IM militants near Lamdangmei Village under the jurisdiction of Noney Police Station this morning.

The attack has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in the region. Authorities are being urged to conduct a comprehensive investigation, identify everyone responsible, and bring the perpetrators to justice through lawful and decisive security operations.

It has also been alleged that Kacha Nagas civilians blocked and obstructed the movement of security forces, potentially enabling the assailants to evade security personnel or continue their attack. If these allegations are confirmed, such actions would constitute a serious obstruction of security operations and should be investigated thoroughly. The incident is highly condemnable, and all those found responsible should be held accountable in accordance with the law.

The blockade has now triggered a direct counter-response.

Following the continued blockade by Kacha Nagas, which has disrupted the movement of essential commodities into Kuki areas, Kukis have today launched a counter-blockade. From this point forward, no essential goods will be permitted to pass through Kuki areas until the blockade on supplies to Kuki communities is lifted. The situation marks a significant escalation, with both sides now facing the consequences of the ongoing blockade.

In a significant political development, protesters from Southern Nagaland (Tangkhul) and Kangleipak (Meitei) united to oppose the arrest of four individuals by the Assam Ri**es. The four are accused of involvement in the 6 July ambush on an Assam Ri**es convoy at Nungshangkong Village, in which two Assam Ri**es personnel were killed and several others sustained injuries.

Following sustained public protests and mounting pressure, the agitation concluded with the release of all four accused by the Assam Ri**es. The development is expected to intensify political debate and raise serious questions regarding security operations, law enforcement, and the handling of the case.

Four Tangkhul NSCN-IM militants have been arrested by the Assam Ri**es at Lunshangkong Village for their alleged involvement in the brutal ambush carried out on 6 July at Nungshangkong Village, in which two brave Assam Ri**es jawans laid down their lives.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Kacha Naga mobs have begun gathering at Leingangching (near Litan), Ukhrul, allegedly attempting to pressure the Assam Ri**es and secure the release of the four arrested militants.
