Two children slept under their mother’s arm,
Safe in the warmth, away from harm.
Breaths soft and even, faces calm and still,
Dreaming of rivers, of trees on the hill.

Outside, the night carried the sound of war,
RPG fire, and something more —
A flash, a roar, a sudden end,
No time to run, no time to hide.

Two children slept under their mother’s arm,
And never woke to the world’s alarm.
Now two hearts lie cold in the ground,
While silence hangs over the Manipur valley.
The valley mourns with flooded eyes,
The hills laugh beneath cold skies.
