PROTEST ROCKS NINGTHOUKHONG OVER DETENTION OF APUNBA LUP MEMBER

A strong public outcry has erupted in Ningthoukhong following the detention of Th. Romen, an active member of Apunba Lup, by Manipur Police. The community has come together to demand justice, blocking all vehicles from passing through the town.

Naga community in Makhan-Kanglatongbi area has expressed outrage over the assault of a Tangkhul Naga auto driver, identified as Kingson Kashung, who was allegedly attacked by a suspected Kuki militant in Motbung on Wednesday evening.

According to a joint statement issued by Makhan-Kanglatongbi Naga Forum, and Tangkhul Welfare Association Kanglatongbi, Kingson Kashung, a native of Chingshou/Zingsui village in Kamjong district currently living in Kanglatongbi, was hired by two Liangmai women to transport vegetables from Motbung Bazar.

Around 7:30 pm, near the gate of Presidency College, a suspected militant confronted him and questioned him in Kuki dialect. When
Kashung replied in Manipuri, explaining that he did not understand Kuki, the situation escalated.

The assailant allegedly identified himself as a member of Kuki National Army (KNA), a Suspension of Operations (SoO) signatory group, before physically attacking the driver with punches and threats.

Security Forces recover huge cache of arms & ammunition from hill districts

In the last few days, coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple sites in the interior and suspected areas of Churachandpur, Chandel, and Tengnoupal districts by joint teams comprising of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/ Army and CAPFs. The team recovered around 87 weapons, 57 ammunition including grenades and lathode bombs, radio sets, etc. as per a press release by Manipur Police.

MANIPUR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT DENIES HOLIDAY ON SEPTEMBER 18, CALLS CIRCULATING NOTICE FAKE

Imphal, September 17, 2025: The Directorate of Education(S), Government of Manipur, has clarified that there is no holiday declared for September 18, 2025, for schools in the state. A notice circulating on social media claiming a holiday for all schools on September 18 has been termed "fake" by the department.

The Director of Education(S), Ng. Bhogendra Meitei, has issued an order stating that no announcement for a holiday on September 18 has been made by the department. The public has been appealed to refrain from generating or spreading such fake documents.

Meanwhile, Directorate of University & Higher Education has also issued a notification debunking reports of colleges and universities shutting down on September 18, 2025, citing weather conditions.

According to the notification signed by Director L. Radhakanta, the State Government has NOT declared any closure of educational institutions on September 18. All colleges and universities in Manipur are instructed to resume normal classes and functioning from September 18 (Thursday).
