Students of Tamphasana Girls (TG) Higher Secondary School yesterday held a sit-in-protest demanding life imprisonment for the two accused Yumnam William and Thongam Tarun of the r**e case of a student of the institute. The sit-in-protest was held at the school gate, with students resorting to sloganeering “Respect the dignity of women”, “Do not disturb educational peace”, “Reward accused Tarun and William with lifetime imprisonment” etc. Meanwhile, on the side-line of the protest, students said that the final hearing of the case has been fixed on December 9, 2013. “We would like these impudent, atrocious persons to be kept imprisoned for the whole of their life separately from other human beings”- expressed a student participating in the protest demanding befitting punishment to be awarded to the two accused- the same punishment as in the recent Delhi r**e cased rewarded by SC ruling, adding that the punishment should be a land mark in the history of Manipur for those who see women as puppets. On November 16, the final argument hearing for the case was concluded at District & Session Judge, Manipur East where it was announced that the final order of the case will be passed on December 9, she added.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will approach the Myanmarese government for resolving the current Indo-Myanmar border row at Moreh in Chandel district at the diplomatic level, said Shambu Singh, joint secretary in charge of North East, Ministry of Home Affairs. The union government will invite Myanmar for a bilateral meeting at the end of this month or the first week of next year. The joint secretary stated this during his official inspection conducted yesterday at Moreh along with officials from the MHA, Surveyor General of India, BRO officials and delegates of joint political parties team of the state. The inspection was led by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam. The visiting officials from the Delhi were joint secretary border (Management) SK Mishra; Director of Suveryor General of India (SOI), Srinivas; KK Das Sarkar of SOI, Chief Engineer of BRO Sewak Project, VK Agarwal, The joint team personally inspected the Border pillar number 23 at Holanphai Village, BP 77, 21 near Tamil Sangam, BP 79 Muslim Basti, BP 80 at Govajang village. Further speaking to media persons, Shambu Singh observed that the current border issue can be divided into two sections - one fencing dividing villages and confusion of border pillars which is causing an uneasy atmosphere. “We have to go by what had been agreed upon long ago or if the outcome it is not positive we will raise the issue at bilateral level to have a relook”, Shambu added.
The Union Home Ministry has charged the PLA, UNLF, PREPAK, KCP and the KYKL of being involved in ninety-nine violent incidents and responsible for killing of seven persons including four security personnel by August last. The mentioned Meitei outfits along with all their ‘factions, wings and frontal organizations’ have been declared as unlawful associations with immediate effect by the Central Government. They are also of the opinion that if the Meitei extremist organizations are not curbed and controlled immediately, they will take the opportunity of mobilizing their cadres for escalating ‘their secessionist, subversive, terrorist and violent activities’. The organizations will be propagating anti-national activities in collusion with forces inimical to sovereignty and integrity of India, they will indulged in increased killings of civilians and targeting the police and other security forces.

The renowned artist is here with her three students to perform the dance during the International Indian Classical Dance Festival 2013 on the 76th Vyasa Pujah Ceremony of his BS Damodara Swami Srila Sripada on Sunday. Tamanna, a professional dancer has performed in different countries across the world taking the message of peace Love and friendship where ever she performed. Tamanna is now running Nrityam dance school at Dhaka completed Master Degree from Rabindra Bharati University Kolkata. On the other hand the renowned Odissi dancer Sita from France will perform her Odyssey dance, Another Srilankan dancer Dhanushka Washeera will perform Kroshna Nartan, state Artist Laxmi Devi will perform Dasa Avatar, Manipuri Solo by Nandarani Devi and Reepa Devi, Nannichuri by M Dineshwari Devi, and Nata Shankritan (which was recently included in the world heritage category of UNESCO) will be perform by Guru L Lakpati and his party. The INDICLAD International Dance Festival 2013 is being organised by Ranganiketan, Srila Sripada Educational Foundation under the theme “For peace, harmony and Unity in Manipur.”

Sadar Hills Half Marathon 2013 will be organized on December 29 under the theme "Higher, Stronger and Better Education in Sadar Hills", said Sharon Kipgen, secretary Organizing Committee. The NT Theatre’s the Lament of a Widow has been selected to be showed at New Delhi during the 16th Bharat Rang Mahotsav International Theatre of India 2014 which will be held from January 4 to 19 next year. Conveying the information in a press statement, the NT Theatre mentioned that the Lament of a Widow is penned by Niladhaja Khuman and the direction and design of the play was crafted by Ningthouja Deepak.
The Manipur People’s Party is organising a silent rally on December 9, 2013 against the brutal murder of Haobijam Manisana Singh and that the party will submit a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur. The press release also appealed to all to extend cooperation. It further urged to all concerned not to provide any obstruction to the party members and workers who will be coming to participate in the proposed silent rally.
National Highway 150 has been blocked indefinitely from the midnight of December 6 against the failure of the government to repair the highway even after repeated assurances. It may be mentioned that following an agitation from the locals, an MoU was signed by Works Minister Kh Ratankumar Singh and Commerce and Industry Minister Govindas Konthoujam on Dec 14, 2012 assuring that the construction of the said stretch of highway would be started from March 2013 following which the then agitation was suspended. Meanwhile, due to the road block which started from yesterday, no vehicles were seen plying along the route except for medical and religious related. Items like banana and other agricultural products were seen bringing in to the Bishnupur market on foot along a shorter route. A bandh supporter said that the road blockade was going on under the active support of Zeliangrong Students’ Union Khoupum area, Ngariyan Village Authority, Cachar Road Educational and Cultural Sporting Association, Meira Paibi, Khoupum Area Drivers’ Association and many local organisations. He further mentioned that another form of stronger agitation will also be launched if the government fails to respond to their agitation.
Candidates whose hard copies of application forms/attendance slip for UGC-NET exam (Dec 29) have not been received by the coordinating institute (MU) are informed to bring two copies of their admission card and submit one to the invigilators during the exam. According to a statement issued by the Coordinator of UGC-NET Exam of MU, the venue of the exam along with the sub-centres, subject-code and others can be seen on MU website www.manipuruniv.ac.in.
The Anouba Mangal Foundation has extended hearty congratulation to Ksh Kangleingamba Singh S/o Dr Ksh Umananda Singh and Ksh (O) Memi Devi on being winning the National Bravery Award 2012-13. Kangleingaba was born on Nov 10, 2001 and is currently studying at St Xavier's School, Moirang Okshongbung. He saved the lives of M Lisa Devi (3) and Y Sanu Devi (2) of Tronglaobi from drowning on Dec 8, 2012. The AMF has great expectation from him in serving others in times to come.
The fate of governments in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Ra-jasthan and Chhattisgarh will be known today when counting of votes takes place in the assembly elections, con-sidered the semifinals ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year. In Mizoram, counting will take place on December 9. Voting ranged between over 65 per cent in Delhi and over 81 per cent in Mizoram. Rajasthan recorded over 74 per cent, while Madhya Pra-desh and Chhattisgarh over 70 per cent.
With Narendra Modi spearheading the BJP campaign after his nomination as the party's prime ministerial candidate; all eyes will be on how the party performs in the current round of elections. On the other hand, the Congress's performance could point to the potential of Rahul Gandhi as the party's mascot ahead of the big fight early next year. The contest was essentially bipolar between BJP and Congress in Madhya Pra-desh, Rajasthan and Chhattis- garh, while in Delhi it was a virtual triangular contest with new entrant AAP making it difficult for the two parties.
Former Mi-nister Wahengbam Komol, who was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Kumbi Assembly Constituency on MPP ticket expired yesterday morning at his Pishum Ningom Leirak residence. He was 80. W Komol was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1974 and went on to become a State Minister taking charge of Cooperation, Tourism, FCS and Industries. He also held the posts of Secretary and Vice-Chairman of Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board at diffe- rent periods. Komol was born in 1933 at Kumbi Khullakpam Leikai. He earned the distinction of being the first matriculate and graduate of Kumbi AC. Meanwhile, Manipur Ex-MLAs' Welfare Association expressing deep condolence on the untimely demise of W Komol conveyed of sharing grief of the bereaved family member. The Association also prayed for the peaceful rest of the departed soul in the heavenly abode.
Expansion of Sanjenthong bridge would begin very soon even as a letter has been sent to the relevant Union Ministry to upgrade Ma-yai Lambi to the status of a National Highway, stated Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar. Dr Ratankumar was spea-king at the re-commissioning function of a suspension bridge at Iram Siphai Mamang Leikai within Wangoi AC, Imphal West district which was repaired anew after it got snapped sometime back. In view of the ever increa-sing volume of traffic over Sanjenthong bridge, expansion of Sanjenthong bridge has been given top priority.
Whereas there are many roads and bridges which need to be constructed/repaired, the amount available is limited. As such, the Government has been working to prioritise the most important projects first, Ratankumar said yesterday morning. Due tender process has been already initiated for expansion of Sanjenthong brid- ge under the Centre’s Special Plan Assistance (SPA).
Although it is now the third quarter of the current financial year, only 14 per cent of the total plan amount has been utilised so far. This was discovered during a review meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi yesterday afternoon. The meeting attended by Council of Ministers, the Chief Secretary, Commissioners and Secretaries noted uti- lisation of the plan amount of Rs 3650 crore sanctioned for the financial year 2013-14. Incidentally the CM is also in charge of Planning and Finance Departments. It was noted that the plan amount could not be utilised speedily because of the unsound financial condition of the State Government. Till the last month, only 14 per cent of the plan amount has been utilised, informed an official. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed all relevant departments to finalise all DPRs and submit pending utilisation certificates in order to ensure that the plan amount is utilised speedily and the relevant Ministries released all sanctioned funds. The meeting also deliberated on release of funds for NLCPR, NEC and SPA projects.
Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Chairman Dr Ng Bijoy has stated that Chingkhei hills located within Khurai Assembly constituency in Imphal East district would be developed as a tourist destination. Speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall at Phaknung Awang Leikai yesterday, Dr Bijoy informed the gathering that the Government has agreed to sanction Rs 4.60 crore for the particular project of developing Chingkhei hills as a tourist destination. The project has such components as guest house, construction of stairway up to the top of the hill etc. The project when fully completed would be highly beneficial to the people of Phaknung, Kangla, Sajeb etc.
Dismissing speculation that the NPF Manipur may not field its candidate in the forth coming Parliamentary election, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur State unit President Soso Lorho asserted yesterday that the Party would field its candidate in the ensuing Parliamentary election. Soso Lorho said that preparations have been made to field the NPF candidate in the poll. It’s “simply unthinkable” to back-off from contesting the Parliamentary election, the NPF State unit president said. He was speaking during the NPF one-day State level political conference at Ukhrul yesterday.
